Adidas Go Full Wes Anderson For 30-Sec World Cup Spot Featuring Messi, Benzema And More

With the Qatar World Cup days away, the promotional campaigns are in full effect, and yesterday, Adidas joined the fray with an incredible 30-second spot.

Adverts during the World Cup are usually themed around the game, with those from brands such as Adidas and Nike standing out, primarily due to their star-studded casts.

Bringing to your screens an ensemble of football superstars, the spots always manage to cosily nestle into your memory and induce nostalgic flashbacks years later.

Part of their ‘impossible is Nothing’ campaign, Adidas’ latest spot brings together the world’s best and brightest talent, and adds a distinct flair to it.

The themes are all about festivity and family, as the stars hurriedly complete their last-minute tasks before boarding a bus to the World Cup together, honouring a ‘family’ tradition.

The colours are vibrant, the vibe is homely and the humour is pretty dry, it’s all very Wes Anderson.

Featuring in the spot are global superstars in Jude Bellingham, Pedri, Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi, Achraf Hakimi, Son Heung-Min and Serge Gnabry. And we can’t forget about our boy Stormz…

The rapper juggles between bus driver and narrator, as he kicks off the spot with the words ‘This is my family’.

Bellingham is the first footballer to appear, rushing down the stairs excitedly before calling on Pedri. We then cut to Benzema, laid-back as usual, and munching on Football-shaped cereal with Stormzy providing the aforementioned ‘dry humor’.

Messi then takes frame as he faces off against his 19-year-old self in a game of Foosball. A metallic ding follows with Messi grinning in triumph, setting up a transition to Son Heung-Min’s 5-star smile.

Hakimi then pieces together a puzzle in his standard rapid fashion, while Gnabry completes his fit for the trip.

All 7 players line up at the bus stop and hop in as Stormzy pulls up.

A shot of the bus driving through a desert backdrop brings the ad to a close, concluding a spot that fans will look upon fondly by the time the next World Cup rolls around.
