Travis Scott, the globally renowned rapper, is no stranger to making headlines with his music and fashion choices.
Known for his electrifying performances and a strong connection to youth culture, like many rappers Scott has also carried out the fascinating crossover between music, fashion and sports with his choice of fits.
As part of his Circus Maximus tour, Travis Scott recently performed at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, delivering a sold out show that was the talk of the town.
During the concert, the rapper was seen wearing a light blue and white football jersey which instantly sent Twitter into a frenzy. The initial thoughts were that Scott had decided to sport an Argentinian jersey as a tribute to Messi. There’s even a fake quote related to Messi doing the rounds online –
This was a logical conclusion to come to as Travis Scott has worn jerseys to shows in the past, most recently wearing the Flamengo jersey at a show in Brazil.
After some more speculation theories started flying around. From fake Japanese jerseys to Argentina’s national team kit or the jersey of popular local club Atlético Tucumán.
It seems to be that the speculation kicked off thanks to media outlet El Canciller, reporting that Travis Scott was wearing an Atletico Tucuman shirt, thanks to the blue and white and striped design.
Some diehard football fans not well versed with the music world went as far as hailing Travis Scott not because of his music stature, but because he decided to wear an Atletico Tucuman jersey.
One source suggested that the kit might be a retro Atletico Suzuka kit or a fake version of one of their kits. This link developed from the front shirt sponsor on Scott’s jersey “Topia” that has been a sponsor for Atletico Suzuka .
However, after extensive digging by curious fans and fashion sleuths on social media, the truth finally emerged, and it wasn’t what anyone expected. It turned out that the jersey had nothing to do with Argentine football—or any football team for that matter.
It was, in fact, a part of Travis Scott’s own merchandise line. The “Topia” on the jersey wasn’t a sponsor but a reference to his latest album, “Utopia.”
Upon closer inspection, the back of the shirt revealed “Circus Maximus”, the name of his tour, and the word “Utopia” repeated again below.
The mysterious black badge? Still unknown, leaving room for further speculation.
Travis Scott also has other pieces of merch that we can assume is worn for similar purposes, and each piece customized as per the location of the show.
Fans who initially thought they had cracked the code were left bemused, as the “tribute to Argentina and Messi” narrative came crashing down.
Many joked about how Travis Scott managed to bait football fans, with people wasting hours trying to match the jersey to a real club, only to discover it was a clever piece of tour merchandise.
It’s clear that this piece was designed specifically for the Argentina show, featuring the iconic blue and white colors of the Albiceleste, and the number 10 on the back, undoubtedly paying homage to Lionel Messi.
The jersey brought a huge amount of attention—not just to the concert, but also to the blurred lines between music, sports, and fashion, with Travis Scott once again proving his knack for keeping people talking.
