Welcome to the first double gameweek of the Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 season. With the new assistant manager chip going live, it’s difficult for FPL managers to choose the best chip for DGW 24. However, the classic triple captain chip has gained a lot of traffic, with teams eyeing big ahead of an action-packed PL weekend.
Like most other chips available in the game, you can play the triple captain chip only once in the entire season. Hence, it calls for a deep introspection. With two Merseyside teams Liverpool and Everton having double fixtures this weekend, GW24 has emerged as a viable route for the powerful chip.
But there is reasonable room for an air of confusion, as FPL teams are bitten by the ‘problem of plenty’ bug. However, here are your best options for the all-important triple captain armband in double gameweek 24.
Template Pick
Md. Salah(£13.7m) is having a dream season and dominating the FPL charts. He has started every match in this campaign and has 19 goals alongside 13 assists under his name. The Liverpool legend is a fan favourite too, with more than 70% ownership in fantasy.
Salah currently sits at the top of the FPL leaderboard with 222pts and there is no one near him. Liverpool faces two away games in this gameweek — an in-form Bournemouth and a rejuvenated Everton under Moyes.
The fixtures may look a bit tricky but trust me, there wouldn’t have been a better stage for Salah to don the glistening triple captain armband. He is an FPL royalty and knows how to carry it effortlessly which may appear baggage for others.
For your information, the Egyptian magician is blessed with an xGI(Expected Goal Involvement) of 1.02 per 90’.
Beyond the Popular Opinion
Cody Gakpo(£7.6m) can be a great alternative to Salah for the triple captain band, heading into DGW24. Gakpo scored a 16-pt haul against Ipswich Town last weekend before scoring from the spot against PSV in the midweek-UCL night.
The Netherlands international has huge prospects against Everton and Bournemouth in the double fixture this weekend. He has outperformed his xG(Expected Goals) in the current campaign, much like Jhon Duran — 8 goals from a total xG of 5.4. Gakpo has 3 assists to his name too.
With Diego Jota still nursing a muscle injury, Gakpo is nailed-on to start as the Liverpool no.9 and likely to make another big haul from the first double gameweek of this season.
Evertoon too has a double gameweek date in GW24 and some of their assets can be considered for the playing XI. However, I see little sense in making any of the Toffees players your triple captain. But you may indulge in some risky business and hand Ndiaye(£5.5m) the triple captain badge to replicate the wild success of Dango Ouattara(£5m) in GW23.
