Liverpool Fans Defend Mohamed Salah After Misleading Full Time Moment with Trent

Liverpool faced Real Madrid at Anfield in the Champions League. Apart from being a highly anticipated football match because of the history and tradition of the two sides involved, this game had a lot more eyeballs for different reasons.

The return of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield after he left Liverpool in the summer to join Los Blancos on a free transfer was the hot topic ever since the draws for the league phase were made.

Trent did not start the game for Real at Anfield and came on in the 81st minute. As many expected, but especially as Trent himself would have expected, he was welcomed with boos and jeers as he came onto the pitch.

However, an interesting event took place after the game, which caught the eye of the media, and in turn, the fans on social media could not stop commenting about it.

Apparently, Mohamed Salah completely ignored Trent after full-time when the Englishman tried to go for a handshake with Salah.

In the video posted on social media, Salah does the customary handshakes with his teammates and the referees after the game, but when Trent appears to approach Salah to greet him, the Egyptian star turns away as if he did not notice Trent.

This again sparked raging limelight on the narrative that Trent’s departure from Liverpool was not taken well by the Anfield faithful and the Liverpool players alike, and the fans wonder whether Salah ignored Trent on purpose or if there was nothing really in it of that sort.

While at Liverpool, Trent and Mo Salah had a very good relationship with each other. They’ve had a strong friendship off the pitch, like Trent visiting Salah’s home regularly, all of which also transpired on the pitch.

Their playing style is complementary to each other, with their on-pitch understanding, which grew stronger over the years by playing together. They were a formidable duo with great on-field chemistry through one-two passes, evidenced by Trent’s crossing and Salah’s finishing.

In fact, back in May, when it was confirmed that Trent was going to leave Liverpool for Madrid on a free transfer, he was booed by most of the Liverpool fans in their game against Arsenal and Salah, on the contrary, hit out at Liverpool fans for their treatment of Trent.

In a Sky Sports interview with Gary Neville after that game in May, on being asked regarding the Anfield supporters’ reactions to Trent’s departure, Salah said, “I think somehow the fans were being harsh with him.” “I think he didn’t deserve it at the time; he deserved the fans to treat him the best way possible because he gave it all to the fans.” On being asked if the boos saddened him, he said: “Absolutely. I was surprised because this is not how we act as Liverpool fans.

Knowing about the relation and bond the two players share, it is a no-brainer that the video clip might be taken out of context, and things might have just been blown out of proportion.

Contrary to some of the wrong media narratives, here are Salah and Trent embracing each other after the game.

Many fans were aware that Salah did not ignore Trent and that the pair had already exchanged pleasantries just before this clip, and commented about the same on social media.

“He didn’t. He’d embraced him about a minute before this”

Many have reiterated the same sentiment on social media.

“He’d already hugged him”

Some believe Salah is not fickle-minded and petty to do such a thing.

“He probably met with him in the tunnel and spoke to him for 45 minutes. We all know Salah isn’t petty like we are”

Some have become nostalgic and reminisce about the bond the two players share, even after playing for different clubs now, referring to their embrace after full-time.

“That embrace between Salah & Trent post-game was incredibly telling. After 8 years together, through title wins & UCL finals, they’ve built a connection that transcends football. Salah-Trent hug hit different. Heartbreaking but lovely regardless of Liverpool & Real Madrid rivalry.”

Reacting to the Salah ignoring Trent video clip. One fan was clearly not amused and was not going to buy any of it.

“He literally didn’t ignore Trent, though. Spreading lies just to seem cool and edgy. Salah and Trent had already embraced before this moment happened. Did you want them to hug again?”

Some have been completely angered by the clip and claim it to be nothing but an apparent anti-Liverpool agenda from a rival fan for unnecessary media attention.

“Mo Salah is not ignoring Trent Alexander-Arnold, his Liverpool teammate of seven years at full time. Not unpleasant viewing. Stop with your anti-Liverpool agenda, especially when you know it’s not true.”

Considering all things about this news, the video of Salah apparently ignoring Trent looks nothing but banter to gain views and unnecessary media attention; clearly, only the part where they do not meet each other has been circulated, and the warm embrace just before that between the two is not mentioned.

The bond and relation between Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold looks intact and special as it was when they played together at Liverpool and they have nothing but respect for one another.
