David Neres Reclaims Nonchalant Crown After Scoring Winner Against Roma

Step aside Michael Olise, Cole Palmer, Jules Kounde, and all the nonchalant aurafarmers out there, the OG nonchalant king is back to reclaim his crown.

David Neres, the tricky Napoli winger, has gone viral once again after delivering the most nonchalant interview in recent memory.

The Brazilian, aside from being an incredible winger, is also known for his dry humor and unique interviews where his nonchalance is turned up to 10. The fact that his facial expressions look like he’s high af only adds to the presentation.

The most striking example of his nonchalant exploits was seen a few years back when he opened up on how he slid into the DMs of German model Kira Winona and bagged a date. The winger stated he only sent her one message –

“I am David Neres. Come to me.”

Things worked out perfectly fine because not only did Winona become his girlfriend, but the couple has since gotten engaged and has a child together.

Neres was a part of the famous Ajax squad of 2018-19 that featured the likes of De Jong, De Ligt, Hakim Ziyech, Dusan Tadic, and more.

While his former teammates got big-money moves to bigger clubs and enjoyed a lot of success, Neres did not experience the same fate. His career stagnated, and he slowly disappeared from the limelight.

After a spell at Shakhtar Donetsk, he moved to Benfica for a couple of seasons, and last season joined Napoli.

During his time away from the spotlight, his throne was taken by Michael Olise’s nonchalance. However, David Neres has returned to form both on and off the pitch, showing he’s still got it.

Neres, who won Serie A with Napoli last season, has been having a career resurgence of sorts. His scintillating form has been on display this season.

He bagged a brace against Atlanta, delivered a Man of the Match performance against Qarabag, and against Roma last week as he scored the only goal to help Napoli win 1-0 and keep pace with league leaders AC Milan.

After the match, he went viral with a nonchalant interview, reminding fans of his personality that once made him everyone’s favorite. Neres, alongside Napoli goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, were chosen for media duties.

The interview got off to a hilarious start as Milinkovic-Savic started patting the head of Neres, showing how proud he is of Neres. Neres then awkwardly grabbed the goalkeeper’s long beard as the two shared a smile.

Neres was then asked by the interviewer:

“A brace against Atalanta, a huge performance in the UCL and this winner tonight. Are you back?”

To that, the former Ajax man gave the coldest possible response:

“I never left. I’ve always been here.”

The clip has been going viral on Football Twitter, with standalone clips, fan edits, and more.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the only viral moment that night as Neres also debuted a unique celebration after the goal.

After the goal, he and Napoli striker Rasmus Hojlund came to the corner flag, spread their hands, and started flapping their arms like a bird. When asked about his unusual celebration, Neres had this to say:

“I have many celebrations, I know I don’t score that much, but I always like to change. It’s boring if I do it always the same. To be honest, I don’t really know which bird it is, but I’ll have to find out.”

Neres will be hoping to continue his run of form as he faces Juventus in a huge league match before a Champions League date against his former club Benfica.
