Turns Out Legendary Commentator Geoff Shreeves Was An Arsenal Fan This Whole Time

For more than 30 years, Geoff Shreeves has been one of the most recognisable figures in English football broadcasting.

Shreeves joined Sky Sports in 1992, the same year the Premier League began, and went on to become one of the broadcaster’s defining football figures.

He interviewed some of the biggest personalities in football, from Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger to José Mourinho and countless Premier League stars.

He was there for title races, cup finals, Champions League nights, sackings, controversies and heartbreak.

If the 61 YO had a club, he kept it so quiet that most viewers either did not know or simply assumed he was neutral.

The London-born veteran could be speaking about Manchester United one week, Chelsea the next, Arsenal after that and Liverpool after that, without ever giving away where his own emotions might lie.

However, after all these years, Geoff Shreeves recently revealed where his true allegiances lie.

Geoff Shreeves is an Arsenal fan.

On CBS Sports Golazo Monday Footy, Geoff Shreeves was joined by Claudia Pagan, Stefano Fusaro, and Michael Lahoud.

Wearing a red polo with an Arsenal logo, Geoff sat not as the detached Sky Sports touchline figure but as someone visibly ready for a celebration.

Claudia Pagan asked him,”How are you feeling? Have you slept? Have you popped open a Champagne at home?

The shock is that Shreeves managed to carry that allegiance while spending decades in one of the most visible roles in football broadcasting without it becoming part of his public identity.

Even his autobiography, ‘Cheers Geoff!‘, which was published in October 2022, never revealed his love for Arsenal.

However, some fans have brought up instances that, according to them, made his support for Arsenal clear.

One example often mentioned is the aftermath of Arsenal’s 8-2 defeat to Manchester United in 2011, when Shreeves’ questioning reportedly left Wenger so angry he “wanted to hit” him. A similar post-match grilling was done after Arsenal’s 6-0 loss to Chelsea.

Fans also believed that in 2012, when he interviewed Branislav Ivanovic after Chelsea’s dramatic Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, Shreeves was very eager to tell him, live on television, that he was suspended for the final.

It was brutal viewing: Ivanovic had just helped Chelsea reach the biggest game in club football, only for Shreeves to deliver the news that he would miss it. Some believe that he was so eager due to his Arsenal allegiance.

A fan also pointed to one of the older versions of the FIFA video game, where Geoff Shreeves reveals the club he supported as a kid.

Regardless of the hints dropped throughout his long career, this reveal is one of football’s biggest plot twists.

Geoff Shreeves was not just another Arsenal fan celebrating the moment.

He was one of football’s most famously unbiased and neutral figures, suddenly being reframed as someone who had been emotionally invested all along.

For years, he stood there with the microphone while players, managers and fans poured out their feelings.

Now, the surprise is that he may have been hiding his own in plain sight.
