Brazil started their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 1-1 tie against Morocco.

While Brentford forward Igor Thiago’s performance left many fans frustrated, many were amazed by the fact the coach of Brazilian national team, Carlo Ancelotti, didn’t make Endrick feature in that match at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

When asked about Endrick’s exclusion, Ancelotti clarified post-match, “I am not going to comment on individual players, I am here to talk about the team”.

Since the Italian joined as the coach of Brazil, Endrick has only appeared in two matches, both of them being friendlies before the World Cup began. Even then Endrick came only in the second half from the bench, against Panama and Egypt.

There’s a growing feeling among Brazil fans that Endrick is not going to feature in any World Cup matches and will rot in the bench as he did at Real Madrid under the Ancelotti era.

This fan frustration has led to a meme phenomenon never ever seen before.

Even Independent journalist Miguel Delaney is addicted to the Endrick-Ancelotti memes.

What stands out is the surprisingly high humour quality of these memes which refuses to be tiresome. The jokes largely center on the narrative that Ancelotti “hates” or is actively avoiding playing the 19-year-old wonderkid.

Although the social media is trying to blame Ancelotti with these hilarious memes, the 67 year old is positive about Endrick and stated he is the future prospect of the Brazil national team.

“l’ll bring Endrick on at the right moment,” Ancelotti said. “We’ll have to wait a little while. He’ll be important in this World Cup. For me, personally, Endrick is an extraordinary talent. Brazil will make the most of his qualities in this World Cup and in the next one too.”

Endrick delivered a solid stint in Lyon shirt after arriving there in January on loan from Real Madrid. The nineteen-year-old contributed 8 goals and 8 assists for Olympique Lyonnais across 21 matches. Helping them reach 4th place at the table and confirmation of UCL football next season.

Carlo Ancelotti also highlighted Endrick’s positive attitude. “He is patient, he’s in no rush, and he’s very mature for his age,” Ancelotti said.”

”That’s a very important aspect. His family, too, who are close to him, are very patient. That’s important for a young man.”

Despite the relentless humor dominating timelines, both player and manager have downplayed any issues between them, with Endrick recently defending Ancelotti’s tactical patience and selection process in interviews.

Endrick also came on as a substitute to play his first minuted at this World Cup int he 3-0 win against Haiti.
