A key player for Premier League giants Manchester United and the Argentina national team, Lisandro Martinez is one of the best in the business in his position.
Though he is not as physically imposing as some of the other top players in his position, Martinez more than makes up for that with his excellent technique and aggressive style of play.
It appears his fearless nature is not just a trait he displays on the field.
On Wednesday, Martinez shared an Instagram story, making his stance clear on a recent controversial development within Argentina’s political landscape.
“Argentina’s lands cannot be sold!!! 😡😡😡,” Lisandro Martinez captioned his Instagram story in Spanish.
Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, who has held his office since December 2023, recently proposed a major shift in the country’s land acquisition rules.
Milei’s government is in favour of establishing the controversial Private Property Inviolability Act, which significantly relaxes the laws surrounding private ownership of rural land, also making the process of acquisition much more streamlined for foreign investors.
The current law, which has been in place since 2011, limits foreign individuals and companies to owning no more than 15% of rural land nationally, provincially, and municipally, so as to give the Argentine people the first right of acquisition.
Javier Milei and his cabinet, however, argue that restrictions lead discourage investment and have ultimately led to large parts of the country remaining underdeveloped.
As one would expect, these proposals have divided opinion within the country. Supporters argue that Milei is right in his efforts, and the injection of foreign funds into the Argentine economy could bring progress. As a byproduct, the rights of local business-owners within Argentina are also expected to be strengthened.
However, those against the law argue that loosening the rules could open the doors for legal loopholes and misuse of Argentina’s territories.
First and foremost, it could lead to national security issues as foreign powers could in theory get their hands on strategically important land, including border regions and areas with water, forests, or mineral resources. Also, environmental and Indigenous rights could take a major hit.
Thousands have protestors have gathered in streets of major cities such as Buenos Aires to oppose the act, and things have gotten to the point where the police have had to used measures such as tear gas to control the furious crowds.

Slogans such as the one Lisandro Martinez used in his Instagram story are one of the go-to phrases used by those opposing Javier Milei’s plans.
Looking at his recent history, it is safe to say Martinez is not one that shies away from making his political stance clear for all to see.
After Argentina beat England 2-1 in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Manchester United star unfurled a controversial banner which stated the Falkland Islands, which are currently an overseas British territory, “belong” to Argentina.
When he was asked about the banner by a reporter shortly after the game, Martinez responded with a simple statement.
“We could not fail the Argentine people. They are ours,” Martinez said in Spanish.

Considering Lisandro Martinez’s fearless nature and Argentina president Javier Milei’s recent decisions, it would not be surprising to see the World Cup-winning centre half make a few more political statements in the days and weeks to come.
