In the last few seasons, Liverpool FC hasn’t shied away from breaking the bank and going full throttle on a single player. Whether it’s Alexander Isak from Newcastle United FC or Bradley Barcola from PSG, the Reds haven’t hesitated to spend $100M+ on a single player. The club’s finances seem to be blooming in the last few years, boasting a 700M record revenue for the first time in the history of the club at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Now that Liverpool has got another financial boost from investors like Jeff Bezos, it has given air to the club’s rumours around Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. The club recently got a major boost after selling over 30% of the club’s stake to the 1982 Holdings Consortium, involving investors such as Bezos and Amit Bhatia for around 1.65B Euros, as per the Guardian.
Furthermore, Liverpool also has a major sponsorship deal as the main club partner with Turkish Airlines, which is set to commence next season. The five-year deal will reportedly inject around 300M Euros over this tenure to the club. Currently valued at 5.5B Euros, the team thereby has all the resources to go full throttle for these two brightest stars of the football world right now.
Liverpool’s obsession with Frenchman Kylian Mbappe has been quite visible in the past decade or so. As per a BBC report, former club coach Jurgen Klopp even tried to sign Mbappe back in 2018, even before the latter’s move from Monaco to PSG. Now, that interest seems to be taking shape yet again, as sources from Fichajes remark that the Reds are planning an offer of 212M Euros for Mbappe ahead of the 2027 summer transfer window.
If the deal actually materialises, it would be the highest incoming transfer in the history of the club, despite the club being big spenders on star players. However, sources have also noted that the club is currently looking for options to curate this deal and fund this entire transfer. Mbappe is currently enjoying an impressive stint with Real Madrid.
In his third season at the club, Mbappe has scored over 90 goals for the Los Blancos. However, in the last few months, the player’s relationship with the club has soured a bit. As per a report from Goal.com, the Frenchman is not happy with the lack of support from his club in his campaign to win the upcoming Ballon d’Or. Nevertheless, there haven’t been any concrete reports of Mbappe looking to leave Madrid at the end of this season.
If the situation eventually boils down to that, the Reds would definitely keep a close eye on it. Meanwhile, Liverpool FC is also developing a similar situation with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Now, it needs to be understood that this move is linked to City’s 115 charges.
After the Premier League found City guilty of the charges, City has appealed against it. Now, if the decision eventually comes out against City, the club might be looking at a possible relegation and financial scrutiny, meaning that the club has to offload players to deal with the situation. This is where Liverpool can come in and exploit the situation. Former football player John Aldridge shared his views recently on the Liverpool-Haaland equation.
“I’d love him at Liverpool. Everyone will want him,” he said via TeamTalk. “They’ve got some great players. If it comes to it, a lot of quality players will be pushing for transfers, but we’ve all just got to wait until that situation arises and watch it develop.”
Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland would be worth gold for Liverpool FC’s future without a doubt. Landing one of them doesn’t just mean getting a natural goal scorer and a frontcourt talisman, but also a leader on the field, which is quite important for a European giant like Liverpool FC that has perennially been a successful Premier League club.
As per Liverpool beat reporter Lewis Steele, the Reds also have the money in the bank to fund major future investments, which is quite evident in the club’s latest financial reports and ownership boost. However, either of these deals is currently subject to multiple terms and conditions. But with the financial might that Liverpool FC has showcased in the last few years, the Reds might fancy their chances if the situation comes down purely to monetary matters.
