£6m Bargain: Everton Battle Sporting CP for In-Form MLS Striker

Everton

Everton overcame back-to-back Premier League defeats with a statement away win against Newcastle United on Monday. Thierno Barry scored his fourth league goal of the season as the Toffees rose to seventh place in the points table.

Barry’s impressive form this season also includes four Carabao Cup goals. While the French striker continues to make an impact, David Moyes’ side fail to find inspiration and goals from the rest of the squad. The lack of support from the rest of the attack has prompted Everton to monitor the in-form striker from Major League Soccer.

According to a TeamTalk report, Everton are seriously considering signing Kelvin Yeboah in the January transfer window. The Ghana-born striker has been in superb form with 18 league goals for Minnesota United this season and is attracting interest from several European clubs, including Everton.

The 26-year-old is the nephew of the former Leeds striker Tony Yeboah, who scored 24 goals in his 47 Premier League appearances from 1994 to 1997. Known for scoring memorable goals, Tony famously claimed the Goal of the Season for his strike against Wimbledon in the 1995–96 season.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Kelvin is making headlines in the MLS this season with 23 goal contributions in 32 matches so far. However, with less than 14 months remaining on his contract with Minnesota, the player is available for just £6 million, as per the TeamTalk report.

Everton’s are reportedly monitoring the player’s development and consider him a strong fit for David Moyes’ setup at Hill Dickinson Stadium. While Everton show strong interest in the former West Ham youngster, they face tough competition for his signature. The Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are also keeping tabs on the player and are reportedly interested in a January move.

Meanwhile, Everton failed to reinforce their attack after their move for AS Monaco striker Folarin Balogun collapsed on the deadline day of the last transfer window. The club also saw their last season’s top goalscorer Beto depart to Fiorentina, leaving them with just one specialist striker in the form of Barry.

The lack of attacking options has forced the club to explore the market before the start of the next transfer window. Manchester United’s struggling forward Marcus Rashford and Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi are among the top names linked with a Merseyside move in recent weeks.
