FC Barcelona‘s high-profile collaboration with the Nike-backed Kobe Bryant “Mamba” brand is reportedly coming to an end, with the historic partnership set to end after the 2027-28 season.
Nike facilitated this historic collaboration, which marks the first time a professional soccer club has partnered directly with Kobe’s brand. The collaboration was initially signed as a three-season project, covering the 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28 seasons.
According to the reliable kit source and collector Footy Headlines, there are currently no indications, active plans, or open negotiations for a contract extension beyond the original term.
The deal prominently features Kobe Bryant’s iconic Mamba Sheath logo replacing the traditional Nike Swoosh on the club’s away kits, as well as dedicated goalkeeper kits, training wear, and high-end lifestyle footwear collections.
The three distinct away kit collections in this capsule are distinguished by their specific color classifications, each paying a unique tribute to Kobe’s Los Angeles Lakers legacy:

The 2025-26 Away Kit is classified as “Clear Team Gold” with “Persian Violet” and black accents. This pale gold base is identical to the classic home jerseys Bryant wore on the court, with a woven snakeskin jacquard pattern and black-out shorts.

The 2026-27 Away Kit is classified primarily as “Field Purple” with a deep black color profile. This design begins with intense black at the top and gradually transitions to a dark, rich purple at the bottom, accented by iridescent logos and brushed gold sponsor detailing.
The 2027-28 Away Kit, while specific design patterns are unknown, leaks indicate that it will feature one final distinct Mamba away color palette to round out the multi-year roadmap.
The two-season run has sparked intense global debate among fans, eliciting wildly divergent emotional responses on social media.
On one side, many fans are deeply disappointed and actively begging the club to reconsider, posting comments like,
Really? Why not? It seems like everyone is loving this partnership! Please extend it @FCBarcelona! 🙏🏻

And fan commented that he wants to this partnership to continue,
I pray they find a way to continue this partnership.
Other supporters are simply perplexed by the abrupt expiration,
A separate faction of the fan base, however, has expressed relief at the news.
For some traditionalists and critics, the crossover brought unwanted controversy, which specifically refers to Kobe Bryant’s highly publicized 2003 Colorado sexual assault case that was dropped criminally before being settled confidentially out of court, prompting harsh backlash such as,
Good, I hate my club, collaborating with a rapist.
While others simply celebrated the separation by saying,
My god, thank goodness.

With the partnership coming to a close, the fanbase has already turned its attention to what Nike and Barça should do next.
While some traditionalists believe the three-year contract is “good enough” and hope that Barcelona will return to a classic, distinct “La Senyera” Catalan flag design, arguing that yellow and red provide a far better identity and color match to differentiate the team during away games, others want Nike to keep pushing basketball crossovers.

Streetwear fans are pitching major alternative collaborations, with prominent user suggestions urging a Jordan Brand partnership, stating that it would be huge deal, following the brand’s enormous success with Paris Saint-Germain.

Meanwhile, others have proposed a future capsule featuring NBA star Victor Wembanyama (“Wemby”), noting the poetic connection that he once played for Barca’s youth basketball team.

The decision to complete the project is based on standard operational factors.
Nike has traditionally executed crossovers on this scale as short-term, high-impact capsules rather than permanent structural brand changes.
Unless Nike, Barcelona, and the Kobe Bryant estate agree to an unexpected, last-minute extension, the final 2027-28 release will officially end the historic crossover before the club returns to standard apparel.
Until then, fans can enjoy the current season’s gear as well as the highly anticipated upcoming scheduled drops before the Mamba Sheath retires from football.
