Kai Havertz certainly looks back to the nicely-lit Estadio do Dragao in Porto from 2021, whenever he is short on inspiration. Hitting the UCL winner for Chelsea remains the peak of his career graph till now. But he wasn’t the no.9 back then. Unlike today, supporters were not used to considering him as the primary source for goals. Neither was Havertz familiar with such high expectations.
The January transfer window has just been shut and Arsenal didn’t see any incomings. There was a hue and cry among the supporters regarding the utter need for a new forward but things have been kept postponed until summer as it seems.
We all know that Arsenal’s blue-eyed boy Bukayo Saka has been out for quite some time nursing an injury and Gabriel Jesus has already crashed out of the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League with an ACL injury. Therefore, Arteta’s options are limited in the final third. Academy lad Ethan Nwaneri has emerged as an option but I see him being used mostly as an understudy to Havertz.
Hence, Kai Havertz has to deal with the pressure to deliver goals and is constantly in the spotlight. He came out with flying colours against Manchester City last week, as he scored a goal and an assist in front of the Emirates crowd. Havertz missed a few chances but managed to register 12pts in fantasy, on a night which belonged mostly to young Myles Lewis-Skelly.
The Germany international has 9 goals and 3 assists in FPL this season. His underlying stats show us that he has almost matched his xG of 9.4. Havertz’s xGI stands at 0.54 per 90’. The 25-year-old who started playing as a no.9 since last year, has 4 goals and 2 assists in his kitty from 8 matches in the UCL campaign.
Kai Havertz will continue to lead the line for the Gunners and despite having missed out on the double gameweek 25 by succumbing to Newcastle United 0-4 on aggregate in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Arsenal has a lovely fixture list going forward. They will face Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City in double gameweek 25, followed by a clash against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium.
The German forward currently costs £7.8m and is owned by only 7.7% of the FPL managers. With fixtures getting difficult now for Chris Wood and Alexander Isak alongside a shadow of doubt over Ollie Watkins due to injury concerns, it appears a viable option to transfer-in the former Chelsea attacker to your fantasy football team.
