City’s newest bromance has taken another wonderfully unserious turn after Cherki uploaded a carousel to Instagram.
The comment section, however, quickly stole the spotlight.
Haaland popped up with a casual, “Looking fresh brozer,” the sort of effortlessly odd compliment that has become a trademark of his online persona. Cherki matched the energy perfectly, replying with an equally profound , “Brozerrrr.”
The oddly dramatic version of a simple compliment only added to the feeling that Haaland and Cherki were sharing their own little friendship joke. For those wondering, “brozer” is just a playful spin on “bro” or “brother”. It is not an official slang term, but the kind of exaggerated internet expression friends use to make a normal “mate” sound a bit more ridiculous and entertaining.
That was apparently all a handful of fans needed. Before long, the pair were being affectionately compared to Dumb & Dumber, with supporters convinced the two have fully embraced life as football’s latest wonderfully unserious double act.
Within minutes, fans had unanimously concluded that Manchester City had accidentally signed their own version of Dumb & Dumber. Not because either player actually said those words, but because the interaction perfectly captured the wonderfully chaotic energy they seem incapable of escaping. Two elite footballers, among the best in the world at what they do, reduced to communicating like two best mates who have spent far too much time sharing the same dressing room.
The comparison is oddly fitting. The 1994 comedy follows Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, two hopelessly clueless friends whose greatest talent is encouraging each other’s nonsense. Fans aren’t questioning Haaland or Cherki’s intelligence. They’re simply convinced the pair share exactly one functioning brain cell whenever Instagram comments are involved.
It helps that neither player has any interest in cultivating the polished, media-trained image footballers usually chase. Haaland has spent years confusing the internet with one-word comments, random emojis and the kind of humour that somehow becomes funnier the less sense it makes. Cherki has wasted absolutely no time matching that frequency, sliding seamlessly into the Norwegian’s strange little online universe.
The result feels less like two global superstars managing a carefully curated brand and more like two mates who accidentally happen to play for the best team in England.
Perhaps that is why the joke has landed so well.
Because beneath the memes sits one of the Premier League’s most dangerous partnerships.
Cherki’s arrival from Lyon immediately gave City a creator tailor-made for Haaland’s relentless movement.
