Rio Ferdinand, post his footballing career, has had a long time as a football pundit. He has worked for the TNT Sports for more than a decade now and had visited multiple marquee games across continents. His visit to Santiago Bernabeu during their semi finals clash against Bayern Munich in 2024, is a known point of discussion among the Madrid fans on how much he admires and respects Real Madrid. Similar to that, he made his presence at Alinma Stadium on Sunday, to witness the Supercopa finals between the two Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Before the game, he encountered Vinicius Jr. on the hallway and encouraged him to ignore the noise around him.
He also tried contacting Trent Alexander-Arnold on the hallway, but Trent seemed to walk away inspite of noticing him, but then came to him and had a chat. Fans took Trent’s reaction to troll Ferdinand being an intruder .
Rio Ferdinand, who lives in Dubai now, is often criticised for being too pretentious in order to get views and attention from the audience. People once even pointed out that during his visit to Bernabeu, he deliberately acted like misstepping on Real Madrid logo and backing away from it, all while knowing it is being recorded. In his very latest visit for the El Clasico game, he was seen talking with Barcelona star Raphinha, after the game. This, according to fans, were one of his attempts to attention seeking, associating himself to the winning side, to get a neutral view from the audience.
He just did not stop with Raphinha but had also spoken to many Barcelona authorities, such as Deco, President Joan Laporta, Coach Hansi Flick and a few. He had not stopped his complimenting and was constantly seen appreciating the way Barcelona work. He had told Flick, that he is a fan of his style of football, and had said to Deco, that his signings were great. Speaking about Joan Garcia, he mentioned that he makes saves like his former teammate, Edwin van der Sar.
He had also met Rashford and De Jong in addition to Raphinha, and had expressed his compliments. He even accoladed, that Pedri might be the best midfielder in the world right now.
While this in itself, was too much for the fans, Ferdinand extended his trip in Saudi, witnessing Ronaldo’s Al Nassr play against their league rivals Al Hilal. Fans were wondering, what is it with Ferdinand, trying to make his presence everywhere in the footballing world.

Rio Ferdinand’s love for the game is appreciated at all means. But his efforts to make himself important to every occasion possibly, and flattering compliments according to the place and people could not get more embarrassing.
