Dan Burn has returned to Newcastle United‘s newly sponsored training facility, The KNOX, with new hairstyle.
The 34-year-old veteran defender caught his teammates completely off guard when he returned to pre-season duties as the very last player to report due to an extended holiday following his 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with England.
Instead of his usual short and unkempt trim, Burn walked onto the pitch with much longer, slicked back hairstyle.

Before his extended break, Burn historically sported a standard, short, and traditional trim with little to no heavy styling or slicking and now he seems to have mirrored England captain Harry Kane’s hairdo.
The dramatic transformation sparked lighthearted banter across the training ground, making him the immediate center of attention.
Danish forward William Osula and German International Nick Woltemade were among the first to playfully mock the giant defender’s shaggy hair. Burn took the lighthearted ribbing in stride, laughing off the comments.
He quickly cleared the air with the team and coaching staff, joking that his new look was not a planned fashion statement or style choice for the upcoming season.

Aside from the initial jokes and training ground comedy, Burn’s reintegration into the squad marked a critical transition period for Newcastle United. The local defender openly stated that walking back into the facility felt more like joining a brand-new football club than returning to a familiar one.
This feeling stems from a summer of tremendous upheaval, both on and off the pitch. Longtime manager Eddie Howe has left St. James’ Park, and Matthias Jaissle, who previously managed Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli, has taken over to lead an aggressive, high-intensity tactical system.
Jaissle warmly welcomed the veteran back into the fold, but Burn’s squad now looks very different from the one he left.
Several key players, including Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon, left the club this summer.
This unexpected departure of senior players has created a leadership vacuum, which the club has attempted to fill with a heavy youth-focused recruitment drive, bringing in five new signings, four of whom are under the age of twenty.
With Guimaraes gone, Burn’s experience and deep local roots have positioned him as the prime candidate to assume the permanent captain’s armband. However, Jaissle has experimented with other leaders like Harvey Barnes during pre-season fixtures.
Despite the off-field chaos and roster turnover, Burn has given his full support to the new management team. After completing initial solo fitness evaluations, he has fully integrated into intensive group sessions as Newcastle races to complete their preparations for the upcoming season.
