Arne Slot Out Petition Crosses 5 Million Mark But There’s A Huge Catch

Arne Slot, Liverpool

ARNE SLOT OUT.

That is currently the word going around amongst Liverpool fans.

A petition simply titled “Arne Slot Out” has been circulating online, with the statement: “Reds, make your voice heard. If you believe change is needed — sign this petition.” The campaign has spread like wildfire across social media, becoming one of the most talked-about topics in English football this week.

The context behind this is impossible to ignore. Arne Slot arrived from Feyenoord in the summer of 2024, replacing Jurgen Klopp, the manager who ended Liverpool’s 30-year drought for the Top-Flight League title, winning the Premier League and also Liverpool’s 6th Champions League trophy, along with 6 other major trophies.

Replicating the German’s legacy was always going to be an uphill climb.

While many believed Slot would not be able to fill the boots of Klopp, Slot set out to prove otherwise.

He picked up right from where Klopp left off, winning the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield, becoming only the 7th manager in Premier League history to achieve this feat.

Liverpool had the chance to win a domestic double, but they lost to Newcastle United in the finals of the EFL Cup. Their cup struggles also reflected in the Champions League and FA Cup, getting knocked out of both competitions.

However, the league title was enough reason to celebrate the 24/25 season.

25/26 season, however, started with a loss, with Slot’s Reds losing to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield.

After the loss, Arne Slot looked to make things right in the Premier League.

Liverpool were off to a flying start in the league, winning 5 consecutive games and being top of the league. It looked like Liverpool were back to their best, and going to repeat another title-winning season.

But it did not last long, as Crystal Palace spoiled the party yet again, beating Liverpool 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

They then went on to lose 4 more games before getting back to winning ways.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool looked exposed in midfield and defense, while seeming clueless in attack.

Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah was also performing inconsistently, adding to Slot’s problems.

Fast forward a few months, and Liverpool has lost 12 league games out of 37, drawing 8. In a season where all teams are inconsistent, Liverpool missed out a chance on capitalising on the situation.

Liverpool currently sits fifth in the Premier League table, with Champions League qualification yet to be confirmed and just one match remaining in their season.

Slot has also overseen 20 losses in all competitions this campaign, the most defeats in a single season this century. For a club that was crowned champions not long ago, the drop-off has been alarming.

The Dutchman has faced fierce criticism throughout the season due to Liverpool’s dramatic decline in both results and performances, despite the club spending £446 million to sign seven new players last summer, while breaking the British transfer record twice in the same window.

That investment was meant to push Liverpool forward. Instead, it has coincided with one of the most turbulent seasons in recent memory.

The petition, which can be accessed arqvt.xyz domain, has received 5 million signatures as of now, making sure the fans’ voices are heard on this.

However, the petition carries a rather significant loophole at its core.

All that is required to sign is simply clicking a button on the webpage; no account or personal details are needed. That means there is absolutely no way to verify who is actually signing, or whether they have signed multiple times.

The technical explanation is straightforward. The site tracks signatories using browser cookies, small files stored locally on your device that tell a website you have already visited. The moment you clear those cookies, or open a private/incognito window where cookies are not stored, the site has no memory of you.

The barrier to inflation is essentially zero. That weakness does not just allow individuals to inflate the total manually.

It also opens the door to automated scripts.

A simple script could repeatedly open fresh sessions, clear cookies, reload the petition page and submit the same action again and again, far faster than a human could.

Without meaningful protections such as account verification, email confirmation, CAPTCHA, rate-limiting, IP-based checks or device-level abuse detection, a counter like this becomes extremely vulnerable to artificial inflation.

The 5 million figure, then, is more a measure of how many people have heard about and signed the petition than how many genuine Liverpool fans actually want Slot gone.

Something like this brings lots of questions about the legitimacy of the petition.

So while the numbers look staggering on the surface, they tell us very little about the true scale of discontent within the genuine Liverpool support.

That said, the numbers are still massive for a football-related online petition and have already surpassed several previous fan campaigns linked to major transfers and manager controversies.

Should Slot depart at the end of the season, Liverpool fans already have a clear idea of who they want stepping through the Anfield doors. Former midfield star Xabi Alonso remains the overwhelming fan favourite to take charge, with his connection to the club and his impressive managerial pedigree making him the dream appointment.

However, the chances of that happening are looking increasingly slim, with Alonso understood to be in talks with Chelsea over a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Slot himself, meanwhile, has not taken the noise surrounding his future lying down.

The Dutchman recently came out publicly and stated that he “has every reason to believe” he will remain as manager next season, suggesting the club intends to honour his contractual agreement. Those words carried confidence, but whether they reflect genuine assurances from FSG or simply well-rehearsed media training remains to be seen.

What is clear is that the petition, regardless of its, has captured the mood of a fanbase that expected far more from this season.

The frustration is real, even if the signature count is not entirely trustworthy. Liverpool is a club built on standards, and right now, many supporters feel those standards are slipping.

The petition will not sack Arne Slot. Only FSG can do that. So the main question hanging over Anfield this summer remains a simple one: are they listening?
