Harry Kane Matrix Edit

Heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, England were considered one of the favourites to go all the way. A big reason for this was the fantastic form of their captain and leading goalscorer, Harry Kane.

Coming off an incredible 2025/26 season with Bayern Munich, Kane has carried over his club form to the international stage without missing a beat. England’s number nine currently has six goals to his name, and he is joint third in the World Cup goalscoring charts.

We now find ourselves looking forward to the semi-finals of the World Cup, and England is still going strong with ambitions to win it all.

As anticipation builds for the Three Lions’ high-stakes clash against Argentina in the final four, an edit featuring Kane has been making waves on social media.

In the video, Harry Kane features as Neo, the protagonist of iconic Hollywood film, The Matrix.

In the original movie scene, Morpheus brings Neo into a simulation known as “The Construct”, which resembles a busy street filled with seemingly ordinary pedestrians.

As the pair walk through the crowd, Morpheus explains how the Matrix is a system that is working against Neo, and that everyone he sees in the crowd is unknowingly supporting the system.

This is not because the people around them are evil, but because they are so “hopelessly dependent on the system” that they might go to any length in order to resist any potential change.

The storyline that the edit seems to push is that Kane must seize his destiny and finally break free from the “Matrix of football”.

Morpheus tells Kane that “the system” is working against him and his team, with every single goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker being a part of that system, and hence working against England, until the moment they manage to succeed in their ultimate goal and lift the World Cup trophy.

Morpheus also says “most of these teams are not ready to play without VAR”, which could be a subtle hint at controversial decisions from referees potentially being a major hurdle for the England team in the big games to come.

One of the best highlights of the edit has to be the cameos of other popular footballers as Matrix agents in the edit.

Kylian Mbappe is featured as a dictator, accompanied with the popular Dictador music for a fraction of a second.

Finally, the edit climaxes with Lionel Messi appearing with a gun to Kane’s head and saying “Que Miras, bobo?”. The line he thwarted Netherlands striker Wout Weghorst with during a heated post-match interview at the 2022 World Cup, after Argentina knocked out the Netherlands on penalties.

The fiery incident went viral almost instantly, and has since become a massive cultural meme, so naturally there was a curiosity among fans as to who to creator of this brilliant clip was.

The creator goes by “ARMIN”, who made this overall movie-like cinematic shot of the scene, using video generators like Kling AI or Hailuo AI.

Though spirits in the English camp will be high after a confidence boosting victory against Norway, the Three Lions now face a much sterner test as they lock horns with the reigning champions, Argentina. Were they to come out on top against Lionel Messi and company, Spain will be waiting for them in the final.
