Son Heung-min becomes global ambassador for fashion brand Burberry

For modern-day footballers, just being popular on the pitch isn’t enough anymore these days. Because of the sheer reach of the sport, some of the world’s best footballers gain millions of fans who are devoted to everything they do.

As a result, popular brands create partnerships with them to promote themselves to the general public. A lot of Premier League stars rake in lucrative sponsorship deals allowing them to tie up with widely recognized brands.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min has become the latest to bag a sweet sponsorship deal after his impressive season in the Premier League. The South Korean star was the joint Golden Boot winner last season after scoring 23 goals in the league and sharing the award with Liverpool winger, Mo Salah.

Son has made South Korea proud and has become a bonafide icon in his country, and that has naturally meant that more brands want to be associated with him.

The Spurs forward has recently inked a lucrative deal with British luxury fashion house Burberry. The UK-based fashion brand have announced him as their new global ambassador after his success last season.

Burberry announced the partnership on Twitter, tweeting: “@Sonny7 joins the Burberry family We are proud to welcome Son Heung-Min, South Korean football star and winner of the Premier League Golden Boot award, as our new brand ambassador.”

In the unveiling picture, Son is donning one of Burberry’s trademark jackets. He is also wearing a stylish golden sweatshirt inside to complete the unique design of the UK-based brand. Son has also been featured in a behind-the-scenes video of his photoshoot for the brand.

The Spurs star can be seen trying out different kinds of attires for Burberry in the BTS video. He’s seen trying out their sweatshirts, a gorgeous-looking brown coat, and a range of t-shirts as well. Son also juggles with a few footballs during the shoot while wearing heavy attire.

The South Korean forward is clearly delighted at being able to link up with a lucrative brand like Burberry. In doing so, he’s also become the first footballer from his country to be able to link such a massive deal as a global ambassador for the UK-based brand.

In 2020, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford also struck a partnership with Burberry to help disadvantaged young people in the UK. But being the global ambassador means Son represents the brand on a much wider scale.

While it’s yet to be unveiled about how much money he’s making from the deal, considering that Man City winger Jack Grealish signed a $1.7m-a-year deal with Gucci earlier this year, Son must also be raking in a lucrative amount from his Burberry partnership.
