After a disappointing season, Liverpool are back. Currently sitting third in the Premier League table, having won 4 games and drawn one, the squad looks redefined, and one of the key areas where it’s ticking again is the midfield.
Liverpool made 4 new signings this summer to replace the outgoing midfielders, and among the four, two have made an instant impact at the club. The two names are Alexis Mac Allister, the World Cup winner with Argentina, and Dominik Szoboszlai, one of the fastest players in the Premier League.
The Hungarian International signed for the European giants on a deal worth 60 million pounds, becoming the third Hungarian player to play for the Reds, after Istvan Kozma and Adam Bogdan.
Since Coutinho, Liverpool lacked a midfielder who could shoot outside the box, and Szoboszlai was touted by fans to fill that vacuum. However, the former Leipzig man is already surpassing fan’s expectations by doing a lot more.
One of his newly discovered facets is the insane speed that he displayed against Wolves. The highlight of the match was Liverpool’s 3-1 win, but Red’s supporters were also awestruck by Dominik’s unreal pace that even broke his teammate, Darwin Nunez’s record of 36.53km/h.
While rival fans have questioned the legitimacy of the sources, it is reported that the 22-year-old recorded a speed of 36.76kph while chasing a Wolves player as he traced back from the opposition box to stop the counterattack, which he ultimately succeeded.
By doing so, his sprint becomes the second-highest recorded sprint in Premier League history, only behind Kyle Walker’s recorded speed of 37.31km/h.
Apart from his pace and shooting, Dom is also showing his qualities in other areas as well. According to the Premier League’s official website, the 22-year-old is fantastic at doing dirty work. As of now, Dom has made 7 tackles with a success rate of 86%. He also made 6 clearances, 3 headed clearances, and intercepted the ball thrice.
He is also involved in 33 recoveries of the ball and has won 24 duels. He was involved in three aerial battles, winning 2 of them, while losing one. He has also blocked opposition shots 4 times.
The Reds midfielder is mainly known for his elegance, skill, and intelligence, however, his desire to help the team in defense is worth a round of applause. Having played all the opening games having scored one goal and becoming the fastest Liverpool player in the squad beside Darwin Nunez, Szoboszlai is showing everyone that he is worth every penny of the 60 million, Liverpool paid for him.
