FC Barcelona edged a thrilling contest in the quarter final of the Copa Del Rey, as they defeated Granada 5-3 at the end of additional extra time. Braces from Antoine Griezmann and Jordi Alba, and a Frenkie de Jong goal secured that the Catalan side would advance into the semi-finals of the Spanish cup competition. It was Granada who went ahead in the 33rd minute when Alberto Soro picked Sergio Umtiti's pocket to feed Kenedy, for a simple tap in. Granada doubled their advantage soon after the half time interval, when Roberto Soldado calmly slotted the ball past Marc-André ter Stegen to double the trouble for Barcelona. Granada v Barcelona lineups Ronald Koeman's side had a lot of work to do to get themselves back in the game and were helped by a stroke of luck when Griezmann's speculative shot rebounded off the post, to hit the Granada goalkeeper Aaron Escandell and then go in. Barcelona were right back in the game at 2-1, and they were soon back on level terms when Jordi Alba scored from a Griezmann pass in the second minute of stoppage time. The tied teams were to play half an hour more, and Barcelona went into the lead in the first half of additional extra time when Griezmann was fed by Alba for the Frenchman to score his second goal of the night. There was to be yet another twist in the tale, as Granada were awarded a spot-kick after Sergiño Dest tripped Carlos Neva in the penalty area. Fede Vico scored from the spot to make it three apiece, as the drama was to continue further. Barcelona went ahead once again in the second half of extra time when Lionel Messi's shot was spilt by Escandell, only for Frenkie de Jong to slot the ball in. Jordi Alba volleyed home his second of the night soon, to give a 5-3 lead to the Catalan side: a lead which proved to be enough for them to advance to the semi-final round of the Copa Del Rey.
