While Tottenham Hotspur have been making significant strides on the pitch following Jose Mourinho’s appointment, it now seems that the club has been doing quite well off the pitch as well after the Special One arrived in North London.
According to a recent study by KPMG Football Benchmark, Spurs were found to have experienced the most drastic jump in social media presence over the last month including a massive 21 % increase in YouTube viewership.
The growth has been attributed to the performance boost the club has witnessed after Jose’s appointment, with the North Londoners regaining their foothold in the race for the Champions League spots after getting off to a disastrous start to the season under Pochettino.
But while the massive improvements in the performance of the side can be considered to be the main reason for the recent upsurge in the social media presence of the club, Jose’s impact on the same simply cannot be ignored.
Spurs fans will be hoping for more of the same from their club when Chelsea visit this weekend with the Blues currently occupying the last Champions League qualification spot and just 3 points above Tottenham in the league table.
Tottenham Hotspur leapfrogged Wolves in the Premier League table with a dramatic 2-1 win over Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to pile the pressure on Frank Lampard’s Chelsea ahead of their visit next weekend.
The home side looked set to extend their 11-game unbeaten run after Adama Traore’s stunning equaliser but Jan Vertonghen headed Jose’s side to victory in stoppage time.
While there were no arguments about the nature of the winner from Spurs, most Wolves supporters were far from happy with some of the antics pulled at the Molineux by the visitors.
One particular Wolves Youtuber seems to be especially upset by Harry Kane’s antics against her team and held no blows back in a scathing assessment of the England skipper’s attitude during her last video.
I AM DONE. WOLVES FANS ARE NOW MY FAVOURITE IN THE LEAGUE😂😭 “HE KICKED THE BALL AWAY” THE EMOTION IN HER VOICE AS SHE TRIES TO ACT LIKE SHE NOT HURT🤣😂 pic.twitter.com/75F1yvlbGr
While Wolves fans were always bound to agree with her she even surprisingly managed to find support from a Spurs supporter who seemed to agree with some of the points she made during the video with a detailed comment on YouTube and even went on to state that Kane’s behaviour at times “does his head in “.
His comment on the video hasn’t obviously gone down well with other Spurs supporters after a screenshot made it to Twitter –
Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to the Allianz Arena would have been earmarked by many fans as the match to judge Jose Mourinho’s progress so far with Spurs being absolutely demolished 7-2 by the Germans during their previous meeting in the UCL.
While the Special One couldn’t prevent another defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich , his team did put in a visibly improved performance during the 3-1 loss yesterday.
After choosing to rest several starters, Mourinho would have been impressed by the performance put in by several fringe players with youngster Ryan Sessengon especially impressing on his first start for the club.
While the young England international would have perhaps forced himself into the Portuguese’s plans for the rest of the season, Moussa Sissoko definitely did himself no favor with a horrendous miss during their last UCL group stage fixture.
After finding himself clean through on Bayern’s goal, the Frenchman somehow made a mess of a clear opportunity to beat Manuel Neuer to leave the entire Tottenham bench shocked.
Mourinho and Son seemed the most devastated on the touchlines with pretty much everyone on the Tottenham bench giving an exasperated reaction to the horror miss.
After a stint away from the sidelines, Jose Mourinho was appointed Spurs’ new boss. The excitement surrounding the Special One’s arrival was imminent and North London managed to get a good taste of it.
As the Portuguese veteran conducted his first press conference wearing the Spurs jacket, journalists from multiple organizations huddled in the press room.
They were reportedly more in number than those that had attended the press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League final last season.
There are apparently more media here than for the Champions League final press day.
Over the years, Mourinho has not only developed a reputation for his tactics but also for his remarks to the media. Be it witty or controversial, his name is almost always found making the headlines.
This time too he did not disappoint, entertaining everyone with his off-the-cuff comebacks. He tactfully handled questions about his former clubs while also paying a tribute to Pochettino. It remains to be seen whether he can bring the same entertainment to the field.
Having taken over as Tottenham’s gaffer following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho seemed determined to get things going the right away.
The Special One has often been picked upon by the media and fans for not promoting enough youth from the academy to his starting XI, but this time around he seems to already be on the path of silencing his critics.
In his very first training session at the club, he was spotted making a coach take note of Japhet Tanganga’s potential.
The 20-year-old central defender first caught attention when he started alongside Toby Alderweireld against Juventus in a pre-season friendly, managing to keep footballing royalty Cristiano Ronaldo relatively quiet. However, he has since struggled to make his way into the first team setup.
The England U-20 international is yet to feature in the league for Spurs and it would be interesting to see what role the Portuguese mastermind assigns him through the course of the season.
Roy Keane, the Manchester United legend, and now a football pundit did not mince his words when he was asked about the performances of Tottenham Hotspur fullbacks in the loss against Liverpool.
Danny Rose in particular was the worst performer of the night as he constantly gave away possession. Due to his flurry of missed passes Spurs never found any considerable momentum on the left wing.
Nothing depicts it more comprehensively than his stats as he finished the match with an awful 17% pass accuracy.
The evening opened very differently for Spurs though as they took only 47 seconds to find the back of the net.
They managed to keep the lead at the half time but their defense looked vulnerable and wanting on multiple occasions.
Rose came back to the squad after missing the last Champions League encounter against Red Star Belgrade.
But the English left-back was constantly found stretched, confused and out of position on the pitch.
It was his dreadful clearance that found Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who finished it brilliantly for the equalizer in the second half.
Aurier on the right flank also had a forgetful night as he was constantly beaten by Sadio Mane’s brute pace.
His terribly mistimed tackle in the box rewarded the Reds a penalty which was calmly converted for a win by Mohamed Salah.
These dismal performances did not impress Keane at all as he was at his brazen best when he said in a post match analysis: “The two Tottenham full-backs were dreadful. Dumb and Dumber, I’d call them. I thought they were really poor.”
Rose will mandatorily miss the next match against Everton as he received another yellow card yesterday. But the 29-year-old is expected to find it difficult to return to the first eleven as Spurs have a very potent replacement in Ben Davies.
Arsenal fans have had their say after Harry Winks dropped a ‘disasterclass’ in the 7-2 mauling at the hands of Bayern Munich just a day after Matteo Guendouzi performed a masterclass in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Tottenham Hotspur were decimated at the hands of Bayern Munich in their new stadium as the Bundesliga giants scored 7 goals on the night with Arsenal old boy Serge Gnabry notching a 4-goal haul.
Niko Kovac’s side were relentless in the Group B clash as they were pressing high and making it difficult for Spurs even when they had a more than comfortable lead in the second half.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Mauricio Pochettino as the heavy defeat came just 6 days after Spurs lost to mid-table League Two side Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.
On a night when every Tottenham player received flak for their performances, especial criticism was reserved for midfielder Harry Winks.
Might have been a bit reactionary but Spurs fans were spotted asking what does the Englishman brings to the team and why was it more beneficial to the team to play him instead of an out and out defensive midfielder?
Questions were asked but none by Arsenal fans who piled on the misery on their counterparts.
The Gunners fanbase were especially vocal in their opinion on the comparison between Harry Winks and Matteo Guendouzi that has been prevalent online since the start of the season.
The Frenchman was crucial in Arsenal going away from Old Trafford with a point in the bag on Monday.
Guendouzi has started all 7 games for Unai Emery’s side in the Premier League and impressed everyone with his dogged display against Manchester United.
Tottenham showed their team spirit is alive and kicking after they overcame a Hugo Lloris gaffe and a sending off to beat Southampton 2-1.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino said it would take time to find unity in his squad after a turbulent summer where several players either wanted to leave or thought they were leaving, but they showed promising signs in a rearguard effort.
Tanguy Ndombele’s goal put them in front early on, but after Serge Aurier was sent off just after the half-hour a calamitous error from Lloris gifted Southampton an equaliser through Danny Ings.
But Harry Kane came to the rescue as he scored a fine team goal, his fifth in the Premier League, to hand Spurs the three points that will go a long way to lifting the gloom at the club.
Needless to say, Spurs fans in the stadium went through a plethora of emotions watching their team play and grind out a much-needed win.
One of the viewers (a non-football fan perhaps) at the new Tottenham stadium decided to list all the things her boyfriend said during the thrilling encounter and you could say it goes for all the Spurs fans who were watching the match –
So my boyfriend took me to watch the spurs game at the stadium today…so I wrote a list of the stuff he kept saying to keep myself entertained lol pic.twitter.com/Uq7BtjEehW
Pre-season friendlies are usually conducted with the intention of getting players back to prime fitness levels as well as giving managers the chance to gauge their options ahead of the upcoming campaign.
While these exhibition matches are usually low intense affairs with both teams looking primarily to get a good workout without picking up any injuries, Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur earlier today wasn’t certainly as ‘friendly’ as advertised.
Both the English teams looked in good form ahead of the International Champions Cup fixture with Spurs fresh off their win against Juventus and United unbeaten in their previous 3 friendlies in Australia.
No love lost between Spurs and Man Utd as Premier League rivals renew rivalry in Shanghai
With Pochettino known for setting up an attacking team and with “pace” being the keyword in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pressers so far, fans who turned up at the Hongkou Football Stadium were always going to get their money’s worth of football.
But even the most optimistic of fans wouldn’t have been expecting the pace and intensity with which both teams went about their business on the pitch with the match-up looking like a proper Premier League fixture for large spells of the 90.
Both teams looked to attack right from the off and things were already looking pretty lively when Anthony Martial beat Gazzaniga at his near post to give United the lead in the 21st minute.
But it was after the Frenchman’s strike that things really ticked off with tackles going in left and right from both teams during the latter stages of the first half.
Not a friendly – Spurs v Man Utd marred with violence from players in Shanghai
While closing down from midfield is always appreciated, Moussa Sissoko took things a bit too far when he tried to halt Daniel James from creating problems on the left wing.
The Frenchman chopped the young winger down and United players seemed incensed for what they felt was deliberate stamp in the follow through of his tackle.
Andreas Pereira looked the most offended and looked inches away from starting a brawl with Spurs skipper Harry Kane before the referee stepped in to diffuse the situation.
The Brazilian looked riled up after the incident and got himself booked for a lunging tackle on Kane not long after Sissoko’s horror challenge.
The fact that there’s some transfer activity to talk about at all at Tottenham is already a refreshing change. This is after all the club who for two straight transfer windows didn’t sign anyone at all and for the same two windows, only released or sold fringe players.
But it’s been a very different story this summer. They’ve already broken their transfer record for a player coming in, have seen an important player over the last few years go out and there may be more business on its way.
A big season was expected of him after excellent displays at the 2018 World Cup but it didn’t turn out that way with the former Burnley man often criticised for poor defensive displays and not even putting in particularly good performances going forward. He’s been sold to Atletico Madrid for £20,000,000.
Rose on his way?
Another English full-back who might be moving to a big European club. Danny Rose played well enough last season but some of his comments in the media haven’t gone down particularly well with the club and they might just decide that with two years left on his contract, now is the time to cash-in on him rather than risk losing him on a free. PSG seem pretty keen, the transfer fee shouldn’t be a problem and Rose may fancy the new challenge himself.
Surely not Eriksen
Christian Eriksen has been at the heart of everything that’s been good about Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino over the past few seasons, most notably their run to the Champions League final last year.
So, Spurs fans will be wondering how the Spurs hierarchy have allowed this to happen: he’s got just one year left on his contract. Admittedly interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona has cooled off just a little over the past few weeks but that’s not to say that’s the end of it. A big bid for a player who can leave on a free next season might even be the most painless solution for Tottenham, anyway. Take the money, replace him, move on. Though the second part of that plan is easier said than done.
The ideal scenario for Spurs would be for Eriksen to sign a new deal, leaving the club with the option of demanding a mammoth fee for him in the future or just keeping a player who the fans love and who is tried and trusted by the manager. The ball is in Eriksen’s court.
The French international is Spurs’ record signing, costing a cool £54m from Lyon. Able to operate anywhere across the midfield, his power and passing make him a certain starter next season in what has been a bit of a problem area for Spurs over the past few years. With his characteristics, he should find the transition to Premier League football pretty seamless.
Bought by Spurs for £8.5m and instantly loaned back to the club he came from…Leeds United. The 18-year-old forward, who can also play as a winger, has no shortage of talent. But Spurs fans will have to wait till they see him in action.
Lo Celso next?
The highly-rated Argentine midfielder has only been a Betis player for a year; the Spanish club decided to sign him on a permanent deal after initially arriving on loan from PSG.
It seems that once Betis’ valuation of the player is met, it might be up to Giovani Lo Celso himself to decide where his future lies.
A Good Window for Spurs?
Hard to say. Ndombele was just the sort of player they needed and is an excellent addition, though Clarke is one for the future rather than the present.
Trippier and Rose (assuming he leaves) ceased to be as important as in previous campaigns and they have decent cover for the pair of them anyway. The fee they got for Trippier was a good one and with Rose likely to go for a similar amount, that’s some useful money coming into the Spurs coffers.
Whether the window is deemed a success will probably ultimately come down to what happens with Eriksen.
As for Spurs’ objectives, they may have to see this as a season of transition with a Top Four finish in the league, a quarter-final place in the Champions League and a good domestic Cup run as about par for the course.
Tottenham Hotspur certainly haven’t taken too long to get their first piece of business done in the summer transfer window with a deal for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele reported to be in the final stages.
Mauricio Pochettino seems to have Daniel Levy’s backing in the transfer market this time around as Spurs looks to build on last year’s Champions League finals appearance.
With Leeds United’s Jack Clarke and Ndombele close to signing on the dotted line the North London outfit is definitely making a statement of intent for the next season.
While Pochettino has overseen major improvements in the club’s fortunes in the league since taking over, constructing a new mega stadium and big money deals like these clearly show that the board is backing their manager’s ambition to make the club a domestic and European super power in the next few years.
The capture of Ndombele is especially a signal of intent from the club with the reported £65 mil fee being more than the entire transfer budget of arch rivals Arsenal.
While transfer fees have become hugely inflated over the last few years with many players also failing to live up to their huge price tags, Spurs fans seem convinced that the French midfielder will break that trend.
After Mousa Dembele left for the riches in China, Moussa Sissoko stepped up to replace the energetic Belgian who was regarded as the best central midfielder in the country by many during the 2016-17 season.
But while Sissoko held his ground in the center of the park, the Frenchman was perhaps never truly considered as the long term answer to the crucial position and fans seem convinced that his younger compatriot is the perfect man to hold the fort down for the club.
The midfield template from StatsBomb shows what a monster Ndombele could be for Spurs
While the difference in footballing quality of the French league with respect to the English Premier League has to be considered, Ndombele clearly outperforms Sissoko in almost every aspect of the game when it comes to midfield.
A look at the numbers and it clearly shows why the club are ready to dig into their chequebook for the 22-year-old.
With time also on his side, Pochettino can surely build a young and exciting squad around the midfield powerhouse which can challenge for honors on all fronts .

Arsenal’s star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang celebrated his 30th birthday by taking his family out on a trip to Miami Beach on June 18.
The Gabon international has been subject to a lot of speculation recently after talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein shockingly claimed that Manchester United were preparing a shock £75 mil bid to prize him away from the Gunners.
And so it wasn’t surprising to see hordes of Gooners rushing to online forums to wish the striker and use the occasion to make Auba feel extra special at the club.
While Arsenal fans were flooding the internet with birthday wishes for their beloved star, arch rivals Tottenham came up with a cheeky way to have a dig at the Gunners on Aubameyang’s birthday.
Birthdays are occasions when people usually like to look back at fond memories but a look at Spurs official Twitter account certainly wouldn’t have given the birthday boy any happy thoughts.
While there was no mention of the striker or his birthday, it’s hard to think that Spurs posting a clip of Hugo Lloris saving Aubameyang’s penalty on the very day was merely a coincidence.
The move was clearly a well disguised dig at their North London rivals and was loved by Spurs fans, judging by reactions to the post on Twitter.
With Spurs taking such special efforts to wish one of their players on his special day, it would have been very surprising if Arsenal didn’t return the favor when they got the opportunity to wish Bernd Leno his 27th birthday two days later.
In a clear dig at the Lloris clip, the Gunners posted a clip of an unbelievable double save from Leno during a clash between the two clubs.
These exchanges on Twitter are the latest episode in the bitter rivalry going between the two North London clubs and fans shouldn’t be surprised to see more jabs on social media pop up before the season starts.
While both teams had fairly successful campaigns last year, with Arsenal making it to the Europa League final and Spurs going all the way to the UCL final against the Reds, both sets of fans will surely be hoping for some silverware this year.
While such spats on Twitter carry little meaning on the pitch, fans do seem to be widely entertained when the rivals clash it out on social forums.
Breaking the monotony of the ongoing break in club football, we can all get behind this kind of pettiness from Tottenham and Arsenal’s official social media accounts!
Jurgen Klopp is a passionate manager. He has never been shy in expressing joy, excitement, anxiety and all possible emotions in the field.
From his epic fist-pumps to his hilarious rundowns on the sidelines, he’s done it all!
At Anfield, he’s known for the almost infinite number of hugs that his players and staff receive from him after every game, which only shows the respect he has for his players who work hard and give it all on the pitch for him.
So it isn’t a surprise that we saw all these emotions in what was arguably the best night of his career in Madrid when he guided Liverpool to the Champions League trophy.
He is no stranger to coming up short at the finals, having lost six cup finals he must’ve exactly known what Mauricio Pochettino was going through. Unlike the animated Klopp that fans normally see, he first went and calmly shook hands and exchanged a few words with Pochettino.
What was also commendable was the fact that he took time to console a heartbroken Jan Vertonghen picking him up and visibly congratulating him before celebrating the huge win with his players. Check out the moment in the video below –
Klopp came in to manage Liverpool in 2015 after successfully transforming Borussia Dortmund into the German powerhouse of a club in his seven-year stint at the club. He’s already replicated his legacy with the Reds as well!
He is an absolute fan favourite as he constantly interacts with them and sings the anthems along with them. He’s bought in a genuine euphoria about Liverpool and the way they play with his high pressing and attacking football.
Not just the fans but he’s also made the management pretty satisfied. When he started at Anfield, the squad value of Liverpool was €400 million, which is now valued at €1.1 billion. Brand Finance report values Liverpool at £1.02 billion – making them the sixth biggest club in the world (Give Me Sport).
It appears that Leeds United winger Jack Clarke is on the brink of becoming Tottenham’s first signing since January 2018.
Bookies have slashed odds on the young talent joining Spurs, with Betfair refusing to take bets on the move which they call a “done deal” (Football.London).
Formal negotiations have been in progress between Tottenham Hotspur & Leeds United over the signing of Jack Clarke this summer and it seems few Leeds fans reckon the player himself has dropped a massive hint of the move by removing the “LUFC player” bit from his bio on Instagram.
Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice the change and took to social media platforms with screenshots of Jack’s apparently new-look Instagram page.
Check it out below –
The winger has come through the ranks at Leeds United, playing 25 games last season, scoring twice and is valued at £20M.
Dele Alli seems to be enjoying his vacation after an injury-stricken season with Spurs.
Already counted amongst the most promising youngsters in the Premier League, Alli has added his name to a list enumerated with some of the biggest names in the celebrity world.
The Kardashians, Conor McGregor, Rihanna, racer Lewis Hamilton, Nicole Scherzinger, Olympian Louis Smith, One Direction star Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and pop idol Justin Bieber are indeed a great company to be counted in for the Spurs man but he won’t like the reason.
Besides being absolute bigwigs in their respective industries, the aforementioned set of celebrities are notorious for hanging out with famous ‘celebrity fixer’ Leon Starino, and he is a man whose association breeds controversy (source).
Recently Alli posted a picture with Starino and Dortmund star Jadon Sancho in the background that has got a few fans worried.
Who is ‘Starino’?
Leon Starino Anderson (on the left) is the brother of the Victoria Secret star, Leomie Anderson. Anderson claims to be a celebrity PR man who happened to have arranged endorsement deals with major brand names for several stars.
Suspected as a drug dealer and a pimp, he is a ‘good friend’ to some of the biggest celebrities. Anderson was constantly at Bieber’s side during his 2013 controversial Believe tour in the UK, which was filled with scandals, where he arranged ‘everything’ for the star (source).
Dele’s role for next season
Although they don’t have any silverware to show for it, Spurs enjoyed a brilliant season which saw them reach the final of the Champions League.
The fans would want more of the same and maybe even better as it seems manager Mauricio Pochettino has been promised funds as he looks to invigorate the Lilywhites with new transfers.
Pochettino has previously trusted Alli with important roles for Spurs and with Christian Eriksen linked away from North London, the Argentine tactician would expect Dele to raise to the occasion, especially when it comes to replace the Dane’s creativity.
Next season will be vital for the English playmaker and the last thing he would need now is a controversy.
The tides are definitely turning in North London and it’s good to see that media giants Sky Sports has realised the same as well.
Sky Sports released their Premier League fixtures for the 2019/20 season and its promotional poster is something to be surprised by, reason being the inclusion of Tottenham Hotspur in it while leaving out media favorites Manchester United.
This positive attention coming from Sky Sports has been much appreciated by the Spurs fans, who think it has been a long time coming.
The bias against Tottenham
After finishing second behind champions Chelsea in 2017, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was denied a place in the manager montages when it even featured the managers that finished way below Tottenham (Thick Accent).
Tottenham Hotspur legend Graham Roberts also blasted Sky Sports News back in December over their coverage and accused their pundits of being biased (Twitter).
Spurs have often been excluded from enjoying the status of a ‘big club’ in the eyes of the footballing world and it’s about time that we start appreciating the efforts of the club & their manager.
Spurs leading the way in the world of football
Pochettino inherited a team that had long lived in the shadow of London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.
Since then the Argentine has modernised Spurs as a club, leading from the front by imposing a dynamic style of play on the team.
Since he took over he’s had a plan to become one of the best teams in Europe and now we’re not far away from the biggest game in Europe and in our club’s history. He’s done a fantastic job, he’s a great manager.
Last season’s runner-up in the UEFA Champions League, Spurs have secured four consecutive top-four finishes in the Premier League and have moved into one of the most impressive stadiums in the world at an estimated cost of £1 billion.
Sudden increase in their fan following across social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram is indeed a manifestation of their monumental rise (Thick Accent).
