Social media milestone shows the unbelievable speed in which Tottenham have grown over the last year

Tottenham Hotspur have recently hit 5 million followers on Instagram and the fans are shocked to see a sudden rise of followers.

Spurs, in recent times, have displayed impressive performances in England as well as in European competitions.

Why the sudden rise?

One explanation to this phenomenon is the 2018-19 Champions League finale.

The Champions League is the biggest football competition in Europe and Spurs were the runners-up in this year’s edition losing the final to English giants Liverpool.

Spurs also pulled off a miraculous comeback in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against an in-form Ajax side.

A second half hat-trick from Brazilian winger Lucas saw them through to the final of Europe’s biggest tournament on away goals.

As of April 2018, Spurs only had 2 million followers on Instagram and has shifted to 5 million in a span of one year.

Attractive brand of football

Spurs Manager Mauricio Pochettino is another man who deserves credit for the gradual increase in the club’s popularity.

The Argentine plays an attractive brand of football and almost won them the league in the 2016-17 campaign.

The club has been consistently putting up impressive performances and have been securing a top 5 finishes under the Argentine.

The club also boasts of top level players who have maintained the club’s popularity.

Attackers Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen; and defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are pretty much responsible for the club’s rising fame in recent times.

Photo: American Tottenham fan bumps into Daniel Levy while riding the Tube, grabs a selfie

Spurs fan from New York visits London for the first time, meets club chairman on the Tube!

A Tottenham Hotspur fan from New York visited London for the first time. He was on his inaugural Tube (underground public transit system) ride when he bumped into the most important person at the club, Daniel Levy!

The Tottenham Hotspur chairman was nice enough to pose for a selfie with the fan.

Known for his sturdy business and finance methodologies, one would think that the chairman of a top 6 club would be driven around in a posh car by a driver.

Be it an act of humility or a quick way to beat the London traffic, a true class act by Daniel Levy! Not many would opt for the tube when they had the financial backing that Mr Levy does but hats off to the Spurs chairman. A wonderful lesson in modesty.

The American fan (@maxberger) was in absolute awe. He could not believe his eyes. Here as a tourist, Max would have thought that if he were to meet anyone from the club, it would probably be at the stadium.

The fans were quick to congratulate Max on his luck. They hoped to hear some transfer news about speculated targets and exciting players coming in.

Max however, was too busy being in awe of the man in front of him and was clearly smitten, check out his reaction below –

Photo – Tottenham star Harry Winks spotted chatting with a blonde beauty on his holidays

Not much has happened apart from Ronaldo’s hat-trick ever since the Champions League final in Madrid.

A streaker halted the final 20 minutes into the game, drawing wide-eyed stares from both the Tottenham and Liverpool players.

The aforementioned streaker posted a picture with Harry Winks on Instagram, joking that she distracted Spurs ace Harry Winks.

She captioned the post: “Did I distract #8 a little too much?”

In the picture Harry Winks stands dumbstruck while watching the model on the pitch (Instagram).

Having been left out of the England squad for the Nations League due to his groin injury, Harry Winks has not exactly shied away from attention.

Recently, as few of his teammates were busy preparing for their clash with the Dutch, Winks was away enjoying a vacation where he again came into the spotlight.

A recent photo created a buzz around social media when a Spurs fan posted the picture of the midfielder with a blonde beauty,

Comments showered in as people reminded us how good Winks is, both on and off the field.

After the Nation League defeat, English boss Southgate is said to have been contemplating about including the 23 year old into the team as England seemed sloppy in possession against the Netherlands.

Winks’ ability to link up defense into attack and holding the ball through tight areas seems an imperative need for England for the third place match against the Swiss this Sunday and the upcoming Euro Qualifiers.

Leaked Image: Spurs to go with retro Nike logo for third kit?

A leak of the Tottenham Hotspur third kit for the season ahead has been making waves online.

The jersey is a blend of the 1990’s design and it features the classic retro Nike logo.

The shirt also features a retro collar, something that is reportedly planned with other Nike third kits as well.

The colour looks to be a highlighter blue whereas the sponsorship, logo and collar don a darker shade of blue.

The leak confirms and follows the trend that Nike hope to set this year with planned retro kits for all their top clubs such as Barcelona, Spurs, PSG, Chelsea, Inter, Roma and Atletico Madrid.

Nothing has been confirmed yet but Nike or Tottenham Hotspur but how good would that retro kit look on the lads!

Nike’s idea of incorporating the 90’s blend is spot on and gives a new refreshing feel to the third kit game.

The highlighter/bright blue is one that is hardly prevalent in today’s game and it really stands out from the rest!

A section of the fans seem to adore the jersey whereas some play the waiting game and will see the kit upon release and draw their conclusions. Nonetheless, a brilliant initiative by Nike and hopefully a successful one.

There’s an absolutely heartbreaking picture of Mauricio Pochettino doing the rounds among Tottenham fans

Saturday night, in what was popularly called as a thunderous showdown, Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 scoreline.

Jürgen Klopp & his monstrous team charged forward to win their long awaited Champions League title after 14 years. It was a victory earned with practice, precision & sweat.

Liverpool coloured Europe red & took with them back home their well deserved 6th UCL silverware.

While the Reds celebrated at the Metropolitano, Tottenham stood still on the grass. Their faces longed to change the outcome of the night.

Tottenham’s Champions League Dream

Tottenham reached the UCL Finals for the very first time in their long lifespan. No doubt, their manager, Mauricio Pochettino deserves the heartiest congratulations for taking the team to that level of brilliance.

After his defeat, he stood on the pitch addressing the Tottenham fans in the stadium. But the burden of loss was so heavy that his heart ached. Thousands of fans watched in lament as the Argentine wept, grieving the loss that occurred on that night at Madrid.

No man is strong enough to withstand the burden of loss in the finals. And certainly no supporter is strong enough to witness the breakdown of their beloved & cherished manager.

It was an emotional moment at the Metropolitano. Some Spurs supporters took to the internet to share the picture (via Reddit) of a grieving Pochettino.

Pochettino’s Devotion

In the last 5 years, the Argentine devoted himself to bring the team to the stage that it stands now. And the fans are more than satisfied with that.

Supporters on Reddit have strongly voiced their opinion that they are absolutely against the sacking of this great man.

Spurs had a disappointing end to a flourishing European season. They gloriously defeated sides like Manchester City & Ajax on their road to the final. In most cases Pochettino’s side played without their star players nevertheless bringing victory to the club.

Thus fans think that Pochettino deserves to be celebrated & thanked for bringing the 136 year old club to this stage of excellence. They irrevocably believe that in the coming years this man would be the one to bring home the UCL trophy.

(Video) Tottenham fan Tracey Crouch destroys gooner John Bercow in Commons

Usually one would like to keep football and politics apart but one just cannot ignore when trolling of this magnitude takes place.

In an epic moment during a House of Commons session, Member of Parliament for Chatham and Aylesford and an avid Spurs fan Tracey Crouch took down Arsenal supporter John Bercow with a Europa League jibe.

Bitter rivals to the core, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur suffered agony in their respective European campaigns.

Arsenal were taken apart by Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea in the Europa League final at Baku whereas Liverpool registered a rather easy win against Spurs in the Champions League final in Madrid.

Poor performances from both the sides but at least Spurs can boast of playing Champions League football next season and the same was spotted in the parliament today.

(Video) Tottenham fans blame the sun for their loss against Liverpool

Paddy Power dropped their latest edition of the much appreciated Fan Denial series and it is based on the recent UEFA Champions League final match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

Liverpool won their 6th Champions League title ever in one of the rather boring finals witnessed in recent times.

It just wasn’t going to be a night to remember for Spurs as Liverpool canceled out everything the North Londoners had to throw at Virgil van Dijk and co.

Many Spurs fans blamed the decision to start Harry Kane over Lucas Moura despite the Brazilian’s heroics against Ajax in the semi-final which single-handedly sent the club in to the final of the most prestigious event in club football.

An understandable criticism from Spurs fans but it seems a few on the internet weren’t this rational and some even blamed the sun for their loss

Check out the hilarious video from Paddy Power below –

A Chelsea player shouted “he hates tottenham” as Willian’s name was being sung in the bus

Ever since Chelsea defeated Arsenal in the Europa League Final, their celebrations seem to be endless.

As their celebrations continued, several videos surfaced on the internet. One of them, posted as an Instagram story by Jorginho, seems to be the most popular of the lot.

Giroud’s jab at the Gunners

The post-match video is shot inside the team bus, with the trophy being passed among the players. It begins with Giroud mocking his former club, Arsenal where he spent 6 years of his 11 year club career.

But the video is not just controversial because of Giroud mocking the Gunners.

Further trolling of another London rival

While the Blues were singing praises for their Brazilian star, Willian, someone from the crowd of players screamed, “he hates Tottenham”, bringing memories back to life.

Willian & Chelsea have old rivalry with Tottenham. It all started in the summer of 2013 when Mourinho was the manager at Chelsea. Spurs accused Mourinho & co. of disrupting their transfer for Willian.

Apparently, he was about to sign for the Spurs in a £30m deal after he completed a medical. However, Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, made a personal call to Kerimov, who is the owner of Willian’s former club Anzhi.

Hiking the price offered by Tottenham by just £2m, Chelsea wer able to hijack the Brazilian star.

Tottenham players involved in the ‘worst rondo ever seen’ before the Champions League final

Only last few training sessions remain before Spurs and Liverpool meet in an epic English face-off this Saturday.

While this is a humongous occasion for Spurs, who have never played a Champions League Final before, they seem to have thrown some major doubts about their readiness for the finals.

Training session at Hotspur Way

Spurs recently held an open training session at the Hotspur Way. It was a chance for the public & global media alike, to see the team’s shape before the finals.

A journalist recorded a video of the Spurs players including Harry Kane involved in a rondo session in training.

Instead of perfect one-touch passes, the public got to witness one of the worst ball exchanges between some of the most reputable stars in football.

Here’s how to do a rondo right –

Fan Reaction

Some fans are trying to console themselves by saying that short one-touch passes are not their style of game.

Here’s hoping that Tottenham doesn’t make a fool out of themselves when they go up against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Or maybe this was all staged to lure Liverpool into a false sense of security before the finals.

Photo – An Everton household proudly displaying Spurs flag in Liverpool before the final

In an amusing photo shared online, a house presumably supporting Everton traditionally was seen bearing a Tottenham Hotspur flag.

The UCL final and it’s drama

Everton had a decent season and finished Eighth in the Premier League standings.

Liverpool , however, have been phenomenal this season. They narrowly lost to Manchester City in an intense Premier League title race.

The fans saw their side miraculously overturn a heavy deficit against Barcelona and reach the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

They face another team who plays with nothing to lose, Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs themselves had a dramatic season and they are hoping to prove their worth at the highest level of club football there is.

After a turbulent start to the season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured the fourth place in the Premier League, two spots behind Liverpool.

They too overcame a deficit against the youngblood Ajax team and won in a dramatic fashion in overtime. They will be looking to give their fans something to be proud of on Saturday.

The enemy’s enemy is a friend

While it is understandable that rival clubs temporarily support opponents of their rivals in hopes of rubbing salt into their wounds, such an abject show of support is really amusing.

The number plate of the house in the picture clearly shows that the family traditionally support Everton.

The shiny Everton crest on the number plate, however , would confuse passersby because of the flags that the house bears.

A Tottenham Hotspur flag is held between two windows, a not so subtle dig at their Merseyside rivals.

Supporting a different club just to p*ss off your rivals

The last time Everton played Tottenham they were thrashed 6-2. Hence, a true Everton supporter showing such support for Tottenham just to spite local rivals Liverpool is extremely amusing to say the least.

But as they say, football fans are the most passionate on the face of the Earth. If supporting an opponent means the downfall of your own bitter rivals, so be it!

Many netizens found the photo ironically hilarious, considering that Everton haven’t achieved much in terms of silverware in a long time, and that their pride in an opponent club seemed unfounded.

Pic: Pochettino’s hometown in Argentina with a fantastic show of support for Spurs ahead of the final

Having gone through an amazing and tough season, Spurs are now just one game away from winning the biggest trophy in club football.

Tottenham barely managed to make it out of the group stages. They beat Dortmund in the following round. Played an exciting two legged tie against Manchester City. The semi-final game was their moment of the season.

The second half Lucas Moura hat-trick sent everyone into a frenzy. On the night, Pochettino could not hold back his tears and emotions.

He has managed so much with this Spurs side.

Now, his home-town as well the whole of Argentina will be hoping that his Tottenham Hotspur side win the tie against Liverpool.

Murphy, Hometown of Manager Pochettino and Goalkeeper Gazzaniga

Named after an Irish man who moved to Argentina to find employment. Murphy is a small town in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. The population is just 3,500. The town known for their countryside and their love for football.

Murphy has managed to give us 2 Champions League finalists – Mauricio Pochettino the manager of the fearless Tottenham side. Paulo Gazzaniga, the substitute goalkeeper who was playing in the second division of Spain 2 years back!

UEFA Cup Winners Cup in 1962-63 and the UEFA Cup in 1971-72 and 1983-84, this could finally be the year that the Spurs win the biggest prize in club competition, the UEFA Champions League.

It won’t be easy but with the tactical brilliance of Mauricio Pochettino and the energy of the squad, we are set up for an amazing final on the 1st of June!

Photo: Tottenham Hotspur home kit for 2019/20 season gets leaked online

The club & Nike haven’t confirmed it officially but the first image of what could be Tottenham Hotspur’s home kit for 2019/20 season has just leaked online.

The picture surfaced on Twitter & Reddit and is suspected to be the one that will closely resemble the official jersey.

Changes In The New Jersey

It looks like a big jump from this season’s home kit. The upcoming jersey is rather simple & basic with no extra details. It’s plain white with navy blue border on the collar & the sleeves. The logos & the authenticity mark are all in navy blue while the AIA mark is kept the same.

2018-19 Kit

Last season’s jersey had a gradient design which received mixed reviews. Dissatisfaction was mainly due to the plain white shorts which fans found to be non-matching with the edgy t-shirt.

A gradient pattern was at the bottom while the rest of the t-shirt was in full white with navy blue only on the back side of collar & the logos.

Hype & Expectations

Overall, fans have a good opinion regarding the leaked new kit which is less experimental compared to that of Barcelona & Chelsea. It is simple & elegant.

Some are also of the opinion that it’s boring. After all, footballers are known for their style & this one is rather simple. Still, the Twitterati seem content with the change from navy gradient to this no-nonsense, straightforward white kit.

Tottenham have gone above Man Utd in the UEFA coefficient rankings for the first time in their history

Tottenham Hotspur are playing some of their best football ever under Mauricio Pochettino and as a result, they have overtaken Manchester United in the UEFA
Club Coefficients ranking for the first time in their history. Spurs come in at 17th whereas United are in the 18th place.

UEFA club coefficients ranking

The club coefficient rankings are decided by reviewing the performances of the various clubs in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League over the previous five seasons.

The coefficient of the league in which a club primarily plies his trade also plays a part.

The clubs receive two points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a defeat in games of the main stages of the Champions League and the Europa League.

The ranking is used to decide a club’s seeding in the competition draws so that the draw is fair.

Spurs making strides

Tottenham Hotspur and United are both on 78 points each but as Spurs are still in contention to win the trophy, we do see them rising higher in the ranking.

The rise in the rankings truly reflect on the success that Pochettino is achieving at Tottenham. They are playing some amazing football and have a squad mixed with both experience and young players. The players are hungry for success and are longing to bring that success to the new Tottenham Stadium. What an opening season that would be!

United falling behind

Manchester United on the other hand, are on a decline and are set to play in the Europa League next season after coming 6th in the recently concluded Premier League season.

With a lack of depth in their squad and the attackers not finding their feet, United have fallen down the pecking order and this season they are the only top 6 team without anything to show for.

How Tottenham have fared in Europe in their last 5 campaigns

  • 2014/15 – 21st place – Knocked out in the round of 32 of the Europa League
  • 2015/16 – 23rd place – Knocked out in the round of 16 of the Europa League
  • 2016/17- 20th place – 3rd place group stage finish, subsequently out in the round of 32
  • 2017/18- 19th place – Knocked out in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League
  • 2018/19-17th place – In the finals of the UEFA Champions League

Tottenham have been in and out of the UCL and UEL over the last 4 campaigns. However, this season they are in the final and against the odds, are looking to go all the way.

Spurs will take on Liverpool (currently on 11th place in the coefficient ranking) in the UCL final on June 1st in Madrid and will look to end the season in the best possible way, a Champions League Trophy to their name.

Bride & groom ban attendees from watching Liverpool v Spurs final during their wedding

Marriage is a sacred union between not just the couple who are in love but also their families & friends. And our loved ones will go a long way to make sure that the couple get their deserved blessings. Right? Well, add another ingredient to this equation & the game changes completely.

A post that suddenly popped up on Mumsnet website & eventually on Twitter itself, took the Twitterati by storm. A woman has narrated a tug of war in her life as her friend’s marriage is about to take place on the night of the Champions League final this year when Liverpool is going to fight off Tottenham Hotspur.

Apparently a large number of the wedding attendees including her husband are from Liverpool itself. Her friends who are getting married, have put out a notice banning all to watch the game on that day on any device.

Also they made sure to let everyone know that they are not going to screen it either. Now, the husband of this lady has decided to decline the wedding invitation & so has a few others.

Wedding is sacred but football is life, as many of us believe. Barring fans to watch Champions League Final just so they can attend someone else’s wedding is too much to ask for especially when your own club is playing.

Jacqui Oatley, a sports presenter, commentator & journalist, posted this issue on Twitter.

Since then a lot of people have started putting up their point of views. While most people are against the bride & the groom, there are some who believe that their wish should be kept.

Another Twitter user has commented, “Our wedding was on the Champions League final last year – lots of family/friends are Liverpool fans, we didn’t care if they watched it – in fact I watched some of it myself!” Such situations test our friendship.

Well, the couple should have thought twice before “banning” the wedding party to stream the match. As funny as this sounds, for a football lover it’s no joke.

Possible Trippier replacement excites Spurs fans with new stadium praise

Over the last couple of seasons, we have seen the emergence of some top class young English talents. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jadon Sancho are the perfect examples of this.

Alexander-Arnold broke into the Liverpool first team last season and has been irreplaceable for the Reds in their chase for the Premier League and the Champions League title this season.

While Sancho on the other hand, has proven that his gamble of leaving Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund has paid off, with the winger shining up the Signal Iduna Park.

Another English talet that has emerged this season but has not gained as much attention as the aforementioned two is Crystal Palace right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 21-year old has been a revelation for Crystal Palace this season and has been one of their most consistent players.

He was also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award held recently. Needless to say, it would be hard for Palace to keep such a talented player with a host of top European clubs showing interest in the youngster.

And if the Wan-Bissaka’s social media activity is anything to go by, he may already have found a club.

He recently put out an Instagram story stating that the new Tottenham stadium was the best stadium he has played in-

The addition of Wan-Bissaka would be a smart move from Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino has helped many young players find their feet at Tottenham, and has then turned them into world class players. Dele Alli being the perfect example of it.

Thus, Tottenham might just be the perfect place for a player like Wan-Bissaka and his development. Also, with Kieran Trippier having been inconsistent for large periods of the season, he may just be a perfect replacement.

The two players who stood out for Spurs in the Champions League semi final against Ajax

The new White Hart Lane hosted its first ever Champions League semi-final as Tottenham Hotpsur welcomed Ajax for the first leg. A momentous occasion for Spurs; although it didn’t end on a happy note as Ajax nicked a crucial away goal en route their 1-0 win on the night.

Danny Rose was the only Tottenham player who knew it was a Champions League semi final

For most of the first half, Tottenham rarely threatened as Ajax dominated the ball, attacking from the get-go. All their attacking exploits paid dividends as they took the lead thanks to Donny van de Beek slotting home on the 15th minute after constant Dutch pressure and Spurs failing to settle into the game.

The fans were quick to point out that Danny Rose seemed to be the only player putting a shift in the game. Rose’s performance gathered many plaudits for his defensive solidarity and attacking threat.

Fans on social media praised the English left-back’s show on the night, as for most parts of the game, it looked like he was single-handedly taking on Ajax. In their eyes, he was undoubtedly Spurs’ man of the match in a game where Spurs didn’t look like their usual outfit.

Besides the Englishman, the other player who stood out for Tottenham was Moussa Sissoko.

The Frenchman came on in the second half and aided Rose and Spurs as they looked the better team in the second half, but their efforts ultimately went in vain.

Regardless, Spurs’ overall performance was one to forget as they registered just one shot on goal in the entire game.

The absence of Kane and the suspension of Son seemed to have hurt them in an offensive sense.

With Son returning for the second leg and a place in the final still to play for, Tottenham fans will be hoping for more players to put in performances like Danny Rose did, as they hope to come up trumps against Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena in a weeks time.

Tottenham fans not impressed with Sky Sports neglecting Harry Kane in this graphic

Harry Kane is who you would call a homegrown hero. Coming through the Tottenham youth system after stints at Arsenal and Watford, Kane is now a household name at Spurs. Currently Spurs’ talisman up top, the England international is now regarded as one of the most lethal strikers in the world, scoring goals for fun and leading from the front.

Kane came into prominence during the 2014-15 season, where he grabbed 21 goals in the league. His numbers and performances earned him an England call-up, and he has been a regular for the Three Lions ever since.

And he’s no one-season wonder either, as Kane has scored 20+ goals in each of his last 4 seasons, including a personal best of 30 goals in the 2017-18 season. Still only 25, Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot twice at Tottenham, during the 2015-16 and the 2016-17 seasons.

Looking well on his way to maintain his consistent record of scoring 20+ goals, things took a turn for the worse this season as Kane picked up an injury after a tackle by Fabian Delph during Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Manchester City in the UCL quarter-final first leg.

Spurs have since confirmed that he has suffered significant ligament damage, which will most likely rule out for the season.

Despite all this, Kane still has 17 league goals to his name this season, joint third on the list, level with Sterling, and behind Mane on 18 and Salah, Aguero, Aubameyang on 19.

But when Sky Sports recently covered the top-scorers list, Harry Kane’s name was nowhere to be seen.

Spurs fans were left in disbelief over the blunder by Sky Sports in relation to Kane’s omission from the list. Who knew an injury could keep you off the pitch, and off the list?

Hailed as “one of their own”, Spurs fans will be hoping that Kane recovers quickly, while also hoping to get a correct list of top-scorers on the TV next time. It’s no doubt that Kane is vital to Spurs’ ambitions, but how well do you think Spurs have coped since Kane’s absence?
