What to make of Mesut Ozil’s cryptic social media update after training footage with Emery surfaces online

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has once again put himself under the spotlight by posting a cryptic tweet on wednesday soon after a video emerged from Arsenal’s latest training session which showed a frosty exchange between Ozil and Emery.

Ozil then took to Twitter posting an image of himself laughing during a training session with a message which read: “You make me laugh.”

Fans were bemused as to what the discussion could have been all about, but it seems like Ozil is finally making his frustrations known to the manager and has now also taken it to a public platform with his latest post.

The other possibility could be that Emery and Ozil were just having a passionate discussion on the training ground and just like many things on the internet, we are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

While it is not clear what the exchange between Emery and Ozil was all about, it appears to be something similar to what happened at Manchester United last season with Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba – and it was the Portuguese coach who ended up leaving Old Trafford.

Several months before Mourinho was sacked by United, a video went viral on social media showing a frosty exchange between the two men in training.

While Emery’s future as Arsenal manager does not look under threat for now the same cannot be said about Ozil’s future.

The 31-year-old has endured a difficult Premier League campaign so far, making just one appearance with manager Unai Emery seemingly against selecting him.

Many football experts and fans questioned Emery’s decision not to select Ozil for the game against Sheffield United on Monday despite being match fit, a game in which Arsenal lacked creativity in the final third and ended up losing 1-0.

The real Arsenal captains showed up when Gabriel Martinelli got hacked by a Liege player

Arsenal secured another comfortable Europa League victory with Gabriel Martinelli leading the way as Unai Emery’s youngsters again seized the chance to impress against Standard Liege.

Bukayo Saka stole the headlines in the recent win at Eintracht Frankfurt and has since progressed into the Gunners’ Premier League side, with Emery making 10 changes from the draw at Manchester United for the 4-0 success here.

Martinelli, who scored twice on his first start for the club in last week’s Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest, repeated the feat with another double in three first-half minutes before Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos completed the rout.

On a night when Kieran Tierney, Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin – who captained the side for the first times – continued their comebacks from injury, Martinelli shone.

The 18-year-old was arguably the least known of Arsenal’s summer signings and Emery insists he is not a natural striker but, in for the lethal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he was ruthless as he bagged a brace and teed up Ceballos for his first goal for the club.

Screengrab of the moment Arsenal’s real captains showed up

Despite the players voting for Granit Xhaka recently, there is still a lot of debate as to who should actually be the club’s captain.

Arsenal fans noticed what Bellerin, Tierney and Guendouzi did when Martinelli was taken down by a Liege player last night and immediately hailed the trio as ‘real captains’.

Arsenal fans correct ‘worst opinion in history of sport’ after Harry Winks disasterclass against Bayern Munich

Arsenal fans have had their say after Harry Winks dropped a ‘disasterclass’ in the 7-2 mauling at the hands of Bayern Munich just a day after Matteo Guendouzi performed a masterclass in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Tottenham Hotspur were decimated at the hands of Bayern Munich in their new stadium as the Bundesliga giants scored 7 goals on the night with Arsenal old boy Serge Gnabry notching a 4-goal haul.

Niko Kovac’s side were relentless in the Group B clash as they were pressing high and making it difficult for Spurs even when they had a more than comfortable lead in the second half.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Mauricio Pochettino as the heavy defeat came just 6 days after Spurs lost to mid-table League Two side Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

On a night when every Tottenham player received flak for their performances, especial criticism was reserved for midfielder Harry Winks.

Might have been a bit reactionary but Spurs fans were spotted asking what does the Englishman brings to the team and why was it more beneficial to the team to play him instead of an out and out defensive midfielder?

Questions were asked but none by Arsenal fans who piled on the misery on their counterparts.

The Gunners fanbase were especially vocal in their opinion on the comparison between Harry Winks and Matteo Guendouzi that has been prevalent online since the start of the season.

The Frenchman was crucial in Arsenal going away from Old Trafford with a point in the bag on Monday.

Guendouzi has started all 7 games for Unai Emery’s side in the Premier League and impressed everyone with his dogged display against Manchester United.

Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka adds himself to a prestigious list with 8 other footballers including Lionel Messi

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was chosen by his team-mates to be the club’s new captain.

Head coach Unai Emery held a blind vote among his squad to decide on his new skipper, with Xhaka winning the vote having worn the armband in six of the first eight games of the campaign.

Emery had a leadership group of five players last year but three of those – Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey – departed over the course of the summer.

The Spaniard revealed that, for this season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil will be his other captains, in order, should Xhaka not play.

Xhaka, who turned 27 on Friday, finds himself in special company as the Swiss joined 8 other footballers – including Messi – who are captain for 1st division European sides and top 100 national teams –

1. Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid & Spain)

2. Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur and France)

3. Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina)

4. Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus and Italy)

5. Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich and Germany)

6. Andreas Granqvist (Helsingborgs IF and Sweden)

7. Seamus Coleman (Everton and Republic of Ireland)

8. Emre Belozoglu (Fenerbahce and Turkey)

9. Granit Xhaka (Arsenal and Switzerland)

When Arsenal new boy Dani Ceballos manoeuvred a devious run in the U21 Euros

Arsenal fans were fuming at the start of the summer transfer window when bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur spent £65 million on Tanguy Ndombele which was £25 million more than Arsenal’s reported £40 million transfer budget.

Many in the footballing world saw the move as a sign which showed that Spurs are finally taking over the mantle as the bigger club in North London.

But it looks like the Gunners weren’t being inactive but waiting for the right opportunity to pounce, and pounce they did!

The club confirmed not one but two deals after acquiring the services of William Saliba and Dani Ceballos.

While Saliba will move back to his parent club on a 1-year loan, Ceballos will look to make Aaron Ramsey’s number 8 shirt his own during his stay in London with a move to make his loan permanent being strongly mooted for the next summer.

The 22-year-old is highly rated in Spain and Gooners fans are barely able to contain their excitement over his signing especially after watching some of his exploits for the Spain U-21s.

The Real Madrid star pulled off a serpentine run from midfield, body feinting defenders left and right before nutmegging a defender to find a teammate in the box.

Aubameyang left 9 Bayern players in his dust with an electric run in LA

More of the same from Arsenal as Unai Emery’s side continued their pre-season with an exciting 2-1 win against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in Los Angeles.

An 88th minute goal from Eddie Nketiah confirmed the win as Arsenal kick-started their International Champions Cup campaign with all 3 points at the Dignity Health Tennis Center.

The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Joe Willock had a fantastic game with the Gabonese frontman going on a mad run that had majority of the Bayern Munich players chasing him.

The big headline from Scottish outlet Sunday Post that has got Arsenal fans excited this morning

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on signing Celtic’s Kieran Tierney according to The Sunday Post.

Arsenal look to be winning the fight to sign Kieran Tierney. The Gunners have been locked in a battle with Italian giants, Napoli, for the Celtic left-back, and have had two bids for the player turned down.

But now they’re set to make a third attempt – a down payment of £20m, plus £5m of add-ons – to match Celtic’s valuation of the 22-year-old.

The North Londoners are in daily talks with the player and they believe that he wants to join them.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon had confirmed a few days ago that Arsenal’s £15 million bid for full-back Kieran Tierney is well short of the club’s valuation of the player, and they will have to offer much more to land him.

He’s on a long-term contract, he’s an asset and we don’t want to sell him.

said the Celtic manager.

Despite this the Gunners remained optimistic and according to Sunday Post, a third bid has been made and it matches the valuation of Celtic.

The headline that has got Arsenal fans excited this Sunday morning

Given the pace and energy he brings into the game, Gunners boss Unai Emery sees Tierney as a great option to play on the left wing.

The Scotsman is a solid defender who likes to go forward with his dribbling ability, and Arsenal would hope that he makes a similar impact in the Premier League like his fellow countryman Andrew Robertson did at Liverpool.

Regarded as one of Scotland’s top talents, Tierney has been the regular left-back for Celtic and made his international debut back in 2016.

Photo – Daft error spotted on one of the Arsenal home kits being displayed at the Armoury

The new Arsenal home kit from Adidas is nothing less than a thing of beauty. While the Gunners are yet to officially release their kits for next season, a picture of their new home kit being displayed in Arsenal’s flagship store The Armoury has been doing the rounds recently.

The Adidas Deal

At £60 million-per-season, Arsenal’s deal with German sportswear manufacturer Adidas  is one of the most lucrative in world football, and among the biggest in England.

Last time Arsenal wore Adidas was in the 1993/94 season and this association might bring back fond memories of their iconic Adidas kit that the side wore during the 1988/89 title win, when the league was won at Anfield in the final minutes of the season.

Massive gaffe in one of the Arsenal kits at The Armoury

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a grave error in the picture with the jersey of Lucas Torreira having his name spelt wrong.

Lucas T-O-R-R-E-I-R-A was spelled Lucas ‘T-O-R-R-I-E-R-A’, a mistake we have witnessed about an year ago. Previously it was the Gunners’ official website that made the same embarrassing mistake but were quick to repent it.

Via Twitter

The 23-year-old Uruguayan, who played for Pescara and Sampdoria prior to joining Arsenal last summer, will look to cement his position in Unai Emery’s starting 11 after a season full of struggles in London.

The holding midfielder was Arsenal’s fourth signing under Emery who continues to strengthen his squad.

Next season will be a big one for the Gunners as they look very likely to seal a spot in the Champions League, with Manchester United going through a phase of transition and Sarri’s departure from Chelsea who are already facing a transfer ban.

Rumors – William Saliba’s friend confirms his move to Arsenal

Arsenal are rumored to sign young Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba for a transfer fee of £27m.

The 18-year-old has caught eyes of major clubs with impressive performances last season with his club, displaying immense calm and composure at the back.

These rumors have further gotten corroboration with a close friend of Saliba assuring that he shall be moving to the Emirates on a personal Instagram message.

The friend, who his followed by Saliba on Instagram, claimed that Saliba will be joining Arsenal .

When asked if Saliba would coming to Arsenal, he responded (in French) by saying: “Yes, but nobody knows it yet”.

His arrival would likely help solve Arsenal’s defensive issues which had gotten into the limelight for all the wrong reasons last season with poor performances at big stages.

With an ageing and unreliable defensive lineup, Arsenal need all the help that they can if they are to challenge for a top 4 finish.

Unai Emery’s rebuilding project at Arsenal last season saw a significant focus towards developing young talent.

Matteo Guendouzi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles were the two players who came up to the ranks of the first team and impressed at the big stages. So there will be high hopes for the youngster to excel under Emery.

‘Unhappy’ Lucas Torreira uploads photo of family in an Arsenal shirt at the Copa America

We are about halfway through the transfer window and rumours are spreading around like wildfire. Links are made from literally every statement made by players and Lucas Torreira seems to have fallen into the trap this time.

The Uruguayan had an impressive first season with Arsenal as he provided the much-needed depth in the midfield and turned out to be a fan favourite amongst the Gooners who’ve often compared him to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

In a recent interview with Ovacion, Torreira expressed the difficulties over settling life at London. He stated:-

The language [barrier] has stopped me, to be able to relate with my team-mates and with the people. It is very difficult when you can’t have dialogue.

And so is the climate. You go out in the morning and it is cloudy, you arrive late to your home and it is cloudy.

It is strange a little bit, the sun, the more of us that we are here and we are accustomed to having always or almost always the sun. But as the years pass, I’m going to be adapting.

These statements shouldn’t come as a surprise because it’s common for foreign players to have difficulties while adjusting to the life in the Premier League in the beginning.

He’s being linked to join former Sampdoria manager Giampaolo who has taken over AC Milan and apparently wants the midfielder to join the club in their quest for Champions League football.

Torreira in a way has shut down these rumours through a post where a young member of his family is seen donning the Arsenal jersey.

His family has travelled to Brazil to support the midfielder who is currently with the Uruguay squad competing in Copa America.

Tottenham being petty on Aubameyang’s birthday, this is how Arsenal responded

Arsenal’s star man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang celebrated his 30th birthday by taking his family out on a trip to Miami Beach on June 18.

The Gabon international has been subject to a lot of speculation recently after talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein shockingly claimed that Manchester United were preparing a shock £75 mil bid to prize him away from the Gunners.

And so it wasn’t surprising to see hordes of Gooners rushing to online forums to wish the striker and use the occasion to make Auba feel extra special at the club.

While Arsenal fans were flooding the internet with birthday wishes for their beloved star, arch rivals Tottenham came up with a cheeky way to have a dig at the Gunners on Aubameyang’s birthday.

Birthdays are occasions when people usually like to look back at fond memories but a look at Spurs official Twitter account certainly wouldn’t have given the birthday boy any happy thoughts.

While there was no mention of the striker or his birthday, it’s hard to think that Spurs posting a clip of Hugo Lloris saving Aubameyang’s penalty on the very day was merely a coincidence.

The move was clearly a well disguised dig at their North London rivals and was loved by Spurs fans, judging by reactions to the post on Twitter.

With Spurs taking such special efforts to wish one of their players on his special day, it would have been very surprising if Arsenal didn’t return the favor when they got the opportunity to wish Bernd Leno his 27th birthday two days later.

In a clear dig at the Lloris clip, the Gunners posted a clip of an unbelievable double save from Leno during a clash between the two clubs.

These exchanges on Twitter are the latest episode in the bitter rivalry going between the two North London clubs and fans shouldn’t be surprised to see more jabs on social media pop up before the season starts.

While both teams had fairly successful campaigns last year, with Arsenal making it to the Europa League final and Spurs going all the way to the UCL final against the Reds, both sets of fans will surely be hoping for some silverware this year.

While such spats on Twitter carry little meaning on the pitch, fans do seem to be widely entertained when the rivals clash it out on social forums.

Breaking the monotony of the ongoing break in club football, we can all get behind this kind of pettiness from Tottenham and Arsenal’s official social media accounts!

Aubameyang showing he’s all about the Arsenal life by rocking a training top during his holidays

Gooners surely had a mini heart attack when talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein shockingly claimed that Manchester United were looking at their star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to replace Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian striker has been linked with a move to Italy for some time now and according to Goldstein the Red Devil’s have turned their gaze to Aubameyang to solve their goal scoring problems.

The 46-year-old presenter said he had reliable “sources on the inside” who have informed him of United’s incoming £70 million bid for the Gabon international.

The presenter’s claims sent the alarm bells ringing around the Emirates with many Arsenal fans fearing that a Robin Van Persie like scenario will once again unfold this year.

But before the frenzy got out of hand, the pacey striker took it upon himself to clarify the situation and laregly quelled the rumours linking him with a summer exit shortly after these claims were first announced.

The former Dortmund hitman was absolutely clinical for the Gunners last season and finished the season as joint top scorer with 22 league goals.

While the North London outfit did manage to get into the Champions League spots last campaign they ultimately ended the season without any silverware after losing out to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

But instead of sulking in the disappointment of the loss, Auba wants his team to rally and aim for a trophy next time around.

The 30-year-old was full of positivity while talking to the club’s website and made it a point to reassure fans that he remains committed to taking the club to further heights in the future.

And it looks like he wasn’t joking around with his words either as the striker posted a video of his summer workout session from Florida.

In the video, Aubameyang can be seen working the treadmill sporting club merchandise and the post would have surely relieved fans after the transfer scare dropped by Goldstein.

Gooner on the pitch and on holidays too! Check out Aubameyang’s post here:

Photo – Arsenal star Granit Xhaka endures bizarre moment with a fan during friendly match

Arsenal midfielder and also a left-back at times, Granit Xhaka was subjected to a rather unconventional moment during a friendly match in Kosovo.

The Swiss professional footballer took part in a charity match held in Pristina, the largest city and capital of Kosovo.

The match was held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the capital’s liberation during the Yugoslav Wars.

Being a Kosovar by descent and one of the most famous footballers from that region, the Arsenal man was chosen to captain one side with the other team being led by Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica (Twitter).

Playing for Arsenal will make you famous, but it seems Xhaka’s popularity amongst Kosovons is on another level as a fan ran on the pitch to kiss the Gunners star’s feet.

Perhaps more to do with his heroics against Serbia than playing for Arsenal, the act (albeit harmless) from the fan would have probably left Granit Xhaka a little uncomfortable.

Check out a photo of the incident below –

Photo: Markus Schubert’s girlfriend might have dropped a massive Arsenal hint on Instagram

The girlfriend of Markus Schubert might have given a brand new twist to the U21 goalkeeper’s ongoing transfer saga.

The Dynamo Dresden shot-stopper was rumored to have made a u-turn on his decision to play for Arsenal after both and Kicker ran news that Schubert had instead decided to join Bundesliga outfit Schalke (Sport Witness).

But it seems, according to a few Arsenal fans online, the move might be back on as the girlfriend of U21 star confirmed that she soon would be going to London with her boyfriend via an Instagram story (Reddit).

Markus Schubert played 31 out of 34 games for Dynamo Dresden in the 2. Bundesliga last season and is pretty much a raw product at this time as the goalkeeper conceded 43 goals & kept 9 clean sheets during this time with German side.

Cracking edit of Yannick Carrasco in next season’s Arsenal home kit surfaces online following strong rumors

Arsenal fans will love to see this one through!

Recently, very strong rumours emerged online which suggested that Belgian winger Yannick Carrasco could be playing for Arsenal this season.

Word around the campfire is that Carrasco, who is currently playing in the Chinese Super League, has agreed to the move and RMC football reporter Sacha Tavolieri revealed that the deal was close to completion.

Gunners need to take stock of their armoury

Arsenal fans will not be too happy with their team’s performance last season. They managed to come fifth in the Premier League, thus resigning themselves to another season playing in the Europa League.

They also lost to Chelsea in this year’s Europa Cup finals, leaving fans desperate for silverware and glory.

Unai Emery will be tasked with building a solid squad. Rumors suggest that Arsenal are looking for a centre back, a midfielder and a winger forward (Football.London). He would want to cement the glaring cracks in his squad to the best of his abilities.

Emery will be desperate to find a quality signing with experience at his disposal. And Yannick Carrasco seems to be the perfect match.

Strong rumors from credible source

Journo for France based RMC Sport, Sacha Tavolieri reported that Carrasco’s agent had been pushing for the deal to come through. He suggested that the deal was going well, with the purported fee being in the neighborhood of €25 million.

Twitter user Chris Davison (via Sacha Tavolieri ) posted a series of updates on the Carrasco signing. Read the thread below:

Pic – Sokratis gets called a very naughty word from an Arsenal teammate on Instagram

Lacazette & Aubameyang aren’t the only ones that have got on well together for the Gunners it seems.

The Frenchman looks to have made some good friends after his switch from Lyon with Greek centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos being especially close.

Lacazette posted an Instagram story for Sokratis as the former Borussia Dortmund man celebrated his 31st birthday.

“Happy Birthday Malaka” wrote the striker .

Beware though, don’t say that word to a Greek whom you have just met for the first time.

“Malaka” is a Greek slang word which is roughly equivalent to “w*nker” according to Urban Dictionary.

Check out the Instagram story from Lacazette below –

Sokratis has impressed at the heart of Emery’s backline since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

With the club always going through difficult times when it comes to availability of fit players, the Spanish boss would look to the big Greek for another strong season.
